I was driving back from work today along the A31/M27 in the absolutely torrential rain with standing water and the occasional small river crossing the carriage way thinking "I'm glad I took the Volvo" when an S rumbles past in the lane next to me. Very nice light blue with C7 V** on the plate, no idea if thats anyone on here but gave a thumbs up for the commitment anyway!

How many of you actually take yours out in the rain? I haven't even driven on wet roads in the S incase I over estimate the grip and end up as part of the scenery. I know they aren't that powerful but I don't trust myself having only had experience in low powered FWD cars. Hopefully going to do a Ride Drive course soon to get to know how to drive it properly.

I think a few of us know who that was ears. Hes OK in the rain cos he caries his own drain pipes under the car masquerading as an exhaust and no I'm not bitter that he has constantly outdone me at S club sound-off .irked

Longers I'm impressed/worried you knew that! (ETA sounds like the car's well known, have to come to some meets...)

Yeah there was a bit of a grumble to it, t'was the only noise I could hear above the pounding rain! Did notice the drainpipes hehe

I'm going to have to compare when my S and his meet, mine ain't exactly small biggrin

Living in the North you get used to driving in the rain rolleyes as far as the behaviour of the car in the wet I would say it is impeccable ! I do slow down in the wet of course but with good tyres and suspension the car handles very well and feels 200% safer than my old MR2 did in the wet thats for sure...

try it... you might like it wink

K wink

Well knowing this country I'll accidently try it in the rain at some point soon. Still not entirely sure about my ability though!

That rain was a fair old test of your roof. I managed to go through standing water at 50 which meant I just had a sheet of white water in front of me, I couldn't see a thing for what seemed like minutes. I'm sure it was only about 5 seconds but it was still brown trouser time. That would have been entertaining in the S.

I would love to come to the I.O.W. car show but it's my brother-in-law's (well almost) birthday so I'll be in London. According to SWMBO, now I have the TVR I can't complain about not getting to go to TVR meets. I keep arguing they go hand in hand but that just gets me 'the look' weeping

Ditto, the look can be scary for the 1st few years but can be ignored quite successfully.

Tell her going to the meets will save you money, they're a chance to dress up, whatever is likely to work.

Or, tell her you can't decide whether to go to the local where the new bar maid with a bad reputation is or go stand in a pub car park talking camshafts with a few blokes. That should do itsmile

(Don't forget to pick the bar maid up on the way to the car meet!)

I usually charge for such wisdom, but this one is freehehe

I did the 'drive into standing water at speed' trick a couple of years ago. Frightening for me and the other cars behind me. Fortunately smile it was a contactless spin, and I lived to tell the tale. Since then I've taken it a bit easier in heavy rain, and have been very lucky with the lack of leaks.

Ah, bad luck OD. Naturally I was only joking. The only correct action is to educate your O/H into the major advantages of being an integral part of the TVR communitysmile

Thats ok Dave, she told me I'm painting her in a bad light and she hasn't told me I can go to TVR meets. To be fair she has just managed to organise things for every meet thats come up which is the same thing! She does have a black belt in Kung Fu and Kickboxing though so not to be messed with! eek

Actually, thinking about it she has only been in the S once and that was only for 5 mins with a cold engine so I didn't give her the full TVR experience. I'm sure I can get her into this TVR thing!

On the driving front Paul, when I hit the water I had a lorry 3ft to the left and the armco 3ft to the right, I couldn't see and the car got yanked to the right when I hit the water. Sort of glad I had close to 2 tons to push me through it, saying that I would have thought that the TVR would have just aqua planed over the top.
