My VXR8 is just over 700 miles old and i dont know if its just me but i'm sure its developed some hesitancy/jerkiness in acceleration using a higher gear and low speeds....this is on a flat road btw and a 1/4-1/2 throttle as i know your not supposed to labour the engine to much while running in.

In 6th at 30-35mph i accelerate but i feel it jerking now and again but it does gain speed. Sometimes this occurs at 35-40mph but it seems less noticeable at what would be a slightly higher rpm. It is also apparent at 5th at 30mph.
Car at idle sits at 650/700rpm and everything there seems normal.
(I dont think it could be petrol as i use the same garage (Shell Vpower) for all my cars and its a busy garage so fuel turnover must be good).

Does this sound normal? Could somebody replicate the above test and tell me if their VXR8 also does this please?

Also is there a way to bring up any fault codes that may be logged on the ECU?

Is the gearing of the VXR8 that different to the Monaro? -they both have the same gearbox. If you are using 6th @ 35 MPH - I'm not surprised you see the symptoms you describe - engine must be doing less than 500 RPM. In my car 70 MPH in 6th - about 1750RPM. I don't use 5th until at least 50MPH and 6th at least 65-70MPH. You need a scan tool like EFIlive, HPTuners, ScanXL in order to read/diagnose/reset any ECU codes.

Dude, dont baby it, let it warm up and thrash the hell out of it.
Give it a good clean out at 6000rpm at WOT!

6th gear at 1000rpm is 40mph, at 30mph its at about 700/750rpm.
Just been out to "test" again and it does it although less obviously/severly at 50mph in 6th.
I'm starting to think its just me and i havent noticed it in the 3 weeks i've had the car....will see how it goes.

i know its a v8 but you still need to wind the engine up a bit to use 6th gear mate 70 mph sounds right to me!!

Yeah you are labouring it too much, which is bad. Drive it normally at worst and thrash it at best. You will end up with a washed out gutless engine otherwise!

OK guys n gals, on way to work this morning doing 60-70mph in 6th and put foot down about a 1/4 of the way and jerky/hesitant acceleration.....definately doesnt feel right and i'm now 100% certain it wasnt doing this earlier this week! Car is fully warmed up btw.

Do these cars have coil packs? A friend said the same thing happened to his wifes Polo and it was a coil pack on its way out.

A definite fault I would say, so back to the dealer old chap. There was a very interesting link on here some time ago written by a seemingly well versed American bloke who advocated, from day one, thrashing, once warm, the living daylights out of the thing in order to obtain a good seal between rings and bore. Pussyfooting around in ther early stages of an engines life was detrimental to its longevity and performance. I have taken his advice on two occasions to no ill effects. Also saves on the horribly boring fag of running in.

Might just need the Italian tune-up. Failing that then scan for DTCs. Misfire might well show up.

Lets get this straight, I havent been pussy footing around! It has got foot down action from day 1 but not overly excessive action ie limiter in most gears!
Once the oil is warm i've been quite liberal in applying the throttle when the occasion allows but when its busy i'm going to tootle along more and hence the problem is more apparent then.

EDIT

Booked in at the dealers for Tuesday, fingers crossed they find something.

Just as an update, been playing about on the way home fom work and the problem is quite apparent in 3rd/4th/5th/6th when the revs are in the 1000-1500rpm band....1st and 2nd at low speeds also dont feel quite "right".

i think i'm going to use the Mrs car tomorrow!

Can you please quit the moronic posts, you are complaining the car won't pull cleanly from just above idle in high gears.

For sure it won't pull an overdrive 6th gear at 750rpm. It will do 70mph in second.

Its got a warranty so take it to a dealer and let them check it over if you are concerned- other than that I suggest when just above idle you use the appropriate gear to prevent the engine bogging down.

I would deem your post as "moronic" tbh, so much for making someone feel welcome to the HSV area of the forum. rolleyes
I'm merely updating the previously posted information to help anyone using the "Search" function looking for a similar issue in future, i must apologise for trying to be helpful.

I know I am a girl and i don't know if anyone else had said this but have you put fuel in from a different garage?? could it be fuel filter mucky?? I had this in my Raging bull and it was the fuel filter in that case

Sorry, in truth I also have some problems.

I have a problem that mine is reluctant to pull away, doesn't feel quick and the rear brakes stink.Does anybody know what the thing next to the gearnob does?

Also when cleaning my car every time I pull the sticky out bit on the rear door it pops open - is this normal?

I also think I have a leak on my fuel tank as the guage keeps dropping when I drive along.

I wouldnt do it too often, but my car does actually pull cleanly from 750rpm without hestitation in 6th.

Sounds like you do have an issue even if its only evident in a lower rev range than would normally be used. I agree it could be the fuel, so maybe try refilling.

Ignore benno, you are getting off lightly compared to how he replied to one of my early posts

Sounds like your car isn't quite right and you should take it back to Vauxhall if the problem is readily demonstrable. Hopefully they won't take "they are all do that" line.

Generally my Monaro certainly pulls cleanly from 500 rpm in any gear, obviously with not much vigour in 6th. It does occasionally subtly misfire and pink which I guess is the engine management just optimising timing and looking for the knock limit. I may notice something maybe once every few weeks and it certainly cannot be summoned up at will.

Funny that, it must be a worldwide stock answer. It was exacty the same answer I got from HSV in New Zealand to a couple of annoying problems I had with an R8 .

Funnily enough when I got back here and learnt a little more (mainly from this forum), they were right!!!!!
