Electrics gremlin :Indicators don't flash, engine won't idle

My Pre cat Griff went in for MOT and on the morning of the test wouldn't start. Found out fuel pump not priming.

Towed it to my mates garage for MOT who said he would sort pump problem out. Pump problem was found to be the common relay problem (many threads on this), new relay fitted problem solved.

On collecting the car on my journey home indicators stopped flashing and on getting home the car refused to idle. Hazard flashers also dont flash. Idle was ok and indicators working as I left the garage.

My mate has offered to sort the problem out, but I'm worried what could have been disturbed which could have caused this problem. All they have done is pulled out the loom over the battery to replace the fuel pump relay.

Any ideas or thoughts what this could be?

The Steve Heath wiring diagram isn't much help.

Check the battery posts are on tight, they may have been disturbed when the loom was shifted

Suggest you switch the hazards on, get yourself into the passenger's footwell and start waggling wires. Once you can make the problem start/stop on demand it should be pretty easy to locate it.

Battery posts nice and tight.

Pressed in the hazard flasher and noticed its not latching... Should it mechanically latch in or electrically via relay, i can't remember ?

Also anyone have access to the full wiring giagram for a precat Griff. The Steve Heath diagram only shows part of the circuit?

Any pre cat Griff owners out there that can tell me if the hazard flasher push button mechanically latches in when actuated? Trying to figure out if switch faulty.......as mine doesn't latch in !

The hazards push button is snap-action, push to engage and push again to disengage. I've found that push button fixings can loosen with time and allow the whole switch body to move in the dash board, especially the head lights and side light buttons, making it difficult to enagage the snap action. This requires a dash board removal to refix the buttons.

Pushbutton now latches was a bit loose on dash !

Indicators now flash it was the failure of the flasher relay mounted behind the stereo. The car now idles fine problem was a disturbed connection to ECU.

Gremlins fixed (for the time being).............
