Hi
I'm planning to put an aicraft intercom in my GTR, I need to know what model to use that would be compatable with a 12v supply.
I know this has been done before, as I remember seeing a website in America, with a chrome GTR fitted with one, but i've been unable to find the site again.
any help would be great.

Couple of reasons really, ive got a 7 litre lump about 2 foot from head is the main one, can use noise reduction headphones, microphones for music and to talk to eack other, music will dim down during speech, and of course gives a great wow factor when yor passanger has to get plugged in to the car.
had a caterham for years, and got really fed up with constant drone on long journeys, so have made a big effort to make the ultima as easy to live with as possible.

Are there any UK laws in regards to using headphones on the road? I would have thought that an 'Ocifer of the Ler' might take a dim view of a driver not being able to hear the the environment (noises that might indicate a potential hazard)? (especially if he has had a hard time stopping you!)
However having said that, with a thundering lump behind your head and music blasting out of your stereo in competition, I suppose this rather destroys that arguement.
But then... when is Mr Plod or indeed the courts rational in these circumstances?

I'm no lawyer or Copper but i believe there is a law stopping road users(including cyclists) from using earphones. There ive done it, head above the parapet, now waiting for the shots to come in.But then... when is Mr Plod or indeed the courts rational in these circumstances?

As ex Police(firearms) i havent heard of or certainly was not instructed to stop anyone wearing ear phone or intercom etc, in fact the radio system we used was in fact hand free and attached to ear pieces.
If you do get stopped it would be one anal Traffic cop with a chip on his shoulder moaning about how the world owes him an Ultima GTR not you. So my advice would be to press the button that flips down the rear plate and press the loud pedal very hard. Oh and wave Bye Bye.

...and that's really the point!
I assume that either Aircraft or Rallye type headphones are much the same in respect to them covering both ears, thus it could be argued that there is very little chance of hearing ambient noise from outside the 'phones, thus the potential hazard.
The 'single', earpiece systems that Ocifers use and indeed hands-free phones naturally do allow one ear uncovered so-to-speak...but then seriously what about deaf drivers?
It sounds cool to go lumping around A and B roads with both 'shell-likes' adorned with the latest in DAYGLOW audio ear-muffs, but in reality I guess you will have some strange looks, if not sneers from other drives mouthing 'MUPPET!!'
Maybe a full crash-helmet wiv intercom might be the way to go? That way at traffic lights you can look like a dum-koff meaning business with the LOUD pedal!
Me? Well... in about 10 years time when I actually mange to FINISH the damn build, and by then having reached nearly (aaghhh not telling!), my only choice is a BIGGLES style leather flying cap mit GOGGLES and a sheepskin coat!

I use Peltor intercom. head phones on the street and incorporated in the helmet on track. The noice cancelation is fantastic. The faster you go the quiter it gets and on the track you can drive the car full throttle but still have a nice conversation in normal volume with you passanger or instrucor. Truly amazing stuff from Peltor. (I guess the other big brand is equal...)
When Tiff test drove the Mclaren F1 LM, wasnt he wearing a twin headphone setup?

I've used Peltor intercoms before in an open top car. Experience as GTR-TT - good sound deadening, 12v supply, links to external sound sources if you want MP3/radio that sort of thing but high risk of looking a muppet.

I'd go for a rally one like a Peltor, it will be easier and cheaper than going for an aircraft one.
Most/all aviation intercom's I've come across use the selection panel to talk or mute depending on the Pax, the noise canceling toys are all in the headset and aren't cheep either mine cost £800 each.
But with all things aviation the high and quicker it goes up from the ground the high and quicker the prices go up.
So go for a 12V powered Peltor
