COD4 a bit short ?

Either you're a gaming god or you were playing it on easy.
Rank up to level 55 online, then go back to single player on Veteran difficulty!
It isn't the longest game granted, but the quality and attention to detail shines through. It never feels like you're grinding away just for the sake of the game being a couple of hours longer. It also has great replay value, I've played through it about 4 times on Xbox and 3 on PS3. There aren't many single player games I bother doing that with.

+1 I do spend most time online now, but occasionally dip into it for 'all ghillied up', 'one shot, one kill' and those mentioned above. On veteran it becomes more a test of patience sometimes, and can get hugely irritating. A bit like being online really.....Rank up to level 55 online, then go back to single player on Veteran difficulty!

You need to take it online... the offline mode accounts for less than 1% of the time I have spent on the game.
Hang on hang on, you mean there's an offline mode?

I think crack is probably less addictive than online CoD4, especially if you want to go Prestige medal whoring.

You need to go and start the game again but complete it in veteran not easy.
Ultimately you're still playing against a known set of variables though - at least with online play, the it's different every time
