Martin Wishhart has just opened a restaurant on Loch Lomond, and I believe there's some kind of D,B&B offer on at the moment. Pricey, but the absolute best (his place in Edinburgh is michelin starred, and definitely the best in town).

Down the food-chain a bit, while you're staying at Aberfoyle, check out the tea-rooms at Brig 'o Turk. Looks like a tarted-up portacabin, but does great food, and has a fantastic whisky selection. Opens funny hours and you'll almost certainly have to book (even for lunch).

As for roads, you're spoilt for choice really. Loads on your doorstep at both locations (especially the Dukes Pass at Aberfoyle), getting even better if you travel further afield. The A817 Loch Lomond to Garelochhead road (plus the extra bit down to the naval base)is worth a special mention.

The Aberfoyle/Lock Lomond road is quite amusing - though it's single track and unsighted so a tad hairy.

Rob Roy's lookout is at the far end; it's not a riot but OK if you want to walk around a bit.

I stay in the area regularly and can say that the local food is........not special. Self catering is OK, the Co-op in Aberfoyle is good and the butcher over the road near the car park does good produce.

The roads.......exellent. You can't go far wrong in the Trossachs.

As for 'attractions'. Bannockburn, Stirling Castle and THE VIEWS.

If your coming ovr the Duke's pass from Aberfoyle, pass Brig O'Turk and 5 miles up the road is the Laid Inn, great food, beer, and maybe a band on a Saturday if your lucky !

Going a bit further afield, the Royal Hotel in Comrie does excellent food in both the bar and restaurant.
There's a pretty good excuse to go up there too, because the road between Comrie and Braco is 15 miles of well surfaced, well sighted tarmac across an MOD range of some kind. Pretty much as close as you get to perfection in a B-road.

try monachoyle mhor hotel, its about 45 mins past callander with rooms to stay in, if you want very very good food (much of it grown in their own gardens and loch) along with a superb wine list and great rooms. served in a dining room with a view over the imposing loch and glens.

Traditional meets modern, great

one word of warning, you will think your lost getting down the road to the hotel butits worth the hassle.
