Mk 1 Focus brake pad change

Excuse the numpty question, but can anyone talk me through changing the brake pads on a mk1 Focus (1.6 Zetec if that has any bearing on the situation)?

I refuse to pay a garage for what I suspect amounts to little more than removing a split pin.

You'll need a 7mm Allen key, Undo Calliper bolts with this and away you go.


More details here, I followed this to change Disc's and Pads, its American, but all the same otherwise.

Quick question - the MOT guy commented that the discs were slightly lipped - at what point do they need to be changed? Do they litterally just come loose with a tap after you've removed the wheels and calipers?

ETA Whilst I'm bombarding you with questions, what's the best jacking point for this procedure?

See the car's handbook for jacking points.

Get yourself a Haynes manual - everything you will need will be in there.

Disc will just come off once caliper is off. All u need is on above website including jack n axle stand points.

Don't just rely on the jack as you have to go right inside the wheel arch (or right under the car) to access the Allen screws which face in towards the engine. As said above, get a Haynes manual.

Changing the discs is only one step further than changing the pads so worth doing if the powers-that-be are starting to notice. I got discs and pads from here.

However if you haven't done brake replacement before I would counsel getting some experienced assistance as brakes aren't an item which permit trial and error.
