Anyone got anything to say about Abingdon? Thinking of using it as a venue for my first track day, will be in my 106 xsi standard car.
Thoughts?
Very good site, well organised, and huge fun. All sorts of cars there from Ferraris to ordinary saloons. You'll enjoy it and if it rains the tintops rule!Thoughts?
Ah well, Mallory is a proper circuit, but Abingdon is an airfield. The airfields are safer 'cos there's nothing to hit but there's no gradients either. Better to start with an airfield but remeber that grass as a run-off is only safe if you're going directly forwards or backwards, NEVER sideways as you'll dig in and flip. If you're headed for the grass try to straighten up the car before you get there. Armco, on the other hand, hurts however you hit it!
Abingdons very good fun, and the places where you'd spin you would still not reach the grass in all likelyhood.
Heres a couple of videos from my car going round abingdon :-

I've got a feeling one is the rarely used layout and the other one the regular one. I'm in work so can't play them to tell you which is which.

As has been said, excellent for a first track day as lots of run off but also not as intimidating as a circuit track day as no race cars allowed. Video of my VX at Abingdon 28/8/09

I assume this means that all cars have to be road legal with full mot/tax and so on - meaning you can't do a shakedown on say a kit car build :/rypt said:

I'm doing my first ever track day at Abingdon on (I think) 25th Sept, basically for all the reasons posted above. I'll be in a white rally prep 205 GTi so come along and say hello if you are there
It's looking increasingly likely that that date will be my first event also. I'll be in a white phase 1 106. Completely standard at the moment, maybe slightly lowered if I can get my arse in gear before then but you probably know how "fun" the rear suspension is to play with haha!
Track looks good from the videos, plenty of run off which is nice incase I get a little over excited!
