zzz i like black number plate, but is illegal isn't it?
Yes they are, but that has never stopped anyone in the past, and they do look good GeorgeIt's funny I saw a Vaux Vectra yesterday with Black and white on the front and "proper" yellow and black on the back - strange on a black car. I think that might actually look good on yours, as the yellow at the back would blend in so you just see the letters. The excuse about show plates might hold more water as well if only one plate was wrong.
Here's the note I posted on another thread about number plates:-
Be careful, if you get an over zealous cop he can have you on more than one offence.
Offences that I know about are:
Reflex reflecting material (post 1/1/73) White front yellow rear to you and me.
Wrong Font (includes italics, size, and letters and numbers must be black)
Wrong Spacing
Wrong border size
No manufacturers (garage or shop) name and postcode
not carrying a BS mark (BS 145d)
Each offence carries a £60 fine, but the offences are not endorseable, and the Police will report you to the DVLA. Who will then send you a letter and ask for photographic proof that you have changed the number plates for ones conforming to the law. They do have the right to withdraw your number plate no matter how much you've paid for it, not heard of it happening though.
Most forces will leave you alone with "normal" looking plates, if there are only slight misdemeanour's involved. Beware of Dorset, they are very hot on number plates (I know from personal experience I had two of their officers try to do me on the same day, and that was the only reason they had pulled me, I wasn't even driving fast!)

Hi George,
I am sure that you passed me the other week on Lower Dunton Road as I was running up the hill by the Golf course. Was it you as it was a yellow Gallardo and the black personalised plate is very unique ;-) ??

George,
I live on Lower Dunton Road too! Am pretty sure that I know your house from the pics. Will have to hook up at some point as the missus really wants an orange Gallardo to complement her orange Elise and would love to get your thoughts. Has to be orange no other colour will do.
It's either that or the new 4.7 Quattroporte Sport GTS. Have a Tubi on my Gransport and it sounds pony compared to that car!
