Why do people think that Jack N's line 'You cant handle the truth!' was so good? I mean i'm not even sure it means anything as its just a shouting ramble and I frankly struggle to understand the big deal.

Well it is kind of the vital turning point in the film, he's bascially shouting out "yeah, alright I did it"

Because it was built up through around 20 minutes of courtroom banter and you also saw the preparation made by the lawyer before that. You can't judge that line in isolation.

In any case the, key line in that film is "Your god damn right I did" in answer to the question "Did you order the code red".

It's a great bit of cinema IMHO.

Pity about the rest of the film.

I'm not so sure it's a "good" line so much as it's fun watching a (good? great? panto?) actor chew up and spit out the scenery smile A bit like Shatner's KHHHHAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN! or anything with Alan Rickman playing a baddy

It's got Tom Cruise in it - so it sucks by default (with the exception of Risky Business).

Yes fundamentally my major objection, although my exception would be The Firm.

Not as good a military line as Samual Jacksons line:

"Yes they deserve to DIE! And I hope the burn in HELL!"

And that only gets away with it because a young Rebecca De Mornay gets her kit off on more than one occasion. yeswink

except that was 'a time to kill'. and had nothing to do with the military. kiefer sutherland was also a bad guy in this though as well as 'a few good men'

It was the key point where he'd wound up a very controlled witness to the degree that he lost it and admnitted that he had ordered his soldiers to act the way they did. So goodbye 30 years of glittering military career.
