Best of luck - but I can't say it will go well if you don't reveal what you're going to do....?

Working for yourself is fantastic and you'll hate working for anyone else again, should you ever need to.

Be prepared, however, for your two biggest headaches being money (lack thereof) and staff (assuming you'll be employing some). That said, you can do things about both... being the boss an'at.

Thanks guys - for those who asked I'm leaving academia to concentrate on my other role as an expert witness in digital evidence matters. I've been doing that on and off for about 8 years so the company actually has cash in the bank to tide me over for a while.

Oooh, interesting! I'd love to know more about this and how you get into doing it, I've 14 years experience in IT, the vast majority being around networking and security both in private and public sectors.

It would almost definitely be something I would like to try in a few years time.
