And another 'What car?' .....for my brother

My brother needs a new car. Currently drives a horrible old Megane. Budget is £5k not including insurance (but insurance cannot be silly). His only requirements are that it must have air con and be reasonably quick (needs a bit of overtaking punch). He won't be doing big miles. Lives in Blackburn.

I suggested:

Clio 172/182
E36 M3
Integra Type R
Mx5

Out of that bunch 172 and Mx5 found favour. M3 not really him and ITR probably too hardcore (and they were all barry'd round his way). I can obviously help him find a 172 but I'm not so familiar with the Mx5. Any tips on reasonable budget for Mx5 and suggested good buys welcome.
