Holding start button to get starter to work.
Discussion
I thought it may be something to do with the Ignition control module.
As the Ignition button is bi-functional I thought it may be the part that switches the function from activating the "power on ignition" mode to the "activate the starter circuit" mode.
Is that handled by the Ignition control module or does the immobiliser isolate the fuel and starting circuits separately.

There are several circuits (6 I think) that go through the immobiliser.
The starter motor is only one of them.
Even if the starter motor circuit in the immobiliser fails "the other way" (ie sticks closed) the engine will turn over but still won't start as the other circuits keep our toys safe.
