Hi All,

Am trying to buy a new build house, the negotiations have been a bit tense but within reason the developer will let me (or will do for me) add some wiring etc before floors down.

Generally living room will have plasma and surround sound
Bedroom same
2nd living room same

would also be handy to plug laptops in sometimes rather than use wireless broadband for internet speed.

I cant go too OTT or he will get @rsed off but before floors go in & before its decorated to save me hassle later..any top tips?

Plotloss always does my av stuff & is brilliant but he's a bit busy at mom.

As an aside, any new supercool av stuff or home automation stuff out I should know about?

In current flat I have living room with pioneer 42inch, RBH fronts, gallo rears run through yamaha amp (dont know model number but think it was the best at the time)

all plugged in is xbox 360 which i use mainly for media centre & sky+ HD, squeezbox & logitek harmony1000.

In bedroom sony 26 inch lcd with panasonic surround dvd system

Importantly make sure they install enough power sockets. Not all new builds come with enough double sockets..

Why not just ask them to put some tubing inside the walls/floors between strategic locations, through which you can pull cables at a later date?? They'll have to put a length of decent string inside as they fit it, of course.

A good friend of Plotty and we work in the same market, slightly different geographically.

Basically we install 2 Coaxes & 2 Cat5e / 6's to each tv point.
If the room is big enough a second pair of data to an opposite corner.
Cat5e and 2x Speaker Pairs to ceiling / speaker locations, but via a keypad location.

Also if you are planning local sources to the screens then dont forget extra power and HDMI / Interconnects between the screen and source location.

wiring for ceiling speakers in the hall ways and bathrooms. Intercom for kitchen to main rooms. Wiring for automation of blinds, external wiring for outdoor music/power points for hot tub etc.
