Was in the West Wing back in June. Not bad for $49 a night. smile

Smaller than the 'other wing' (cannot remember what it is called).

Have fun!!

The West Wing is at the front of the MGM (near the exits to the strip). The rooms have a more modern design that the usual Vegas faire. Stayed in the West Wing once several years ago, it was fine.

Thanks for the advice, looks good on the web-site but never know whether that's very accurate or not.
Think we'll only be sleeping in the room as out in evenings with contacts etc.

just got to sort hire car to get us from phoenix to vegas now.....any advice, looking for something suitably loud and brash?

MGM is ace, I stayed there for 4 days earlier in the year.

If you self park, be prepared for a serious walk from the car park to reception, valet is right outside the main door, but the queues in the mornings can be horrific.

The hotel itself is huge, and the map you get on check-in is crap - you will get lost trying to find the right route to your room.
I had been warned about this and chose to check in and find my room without my luggage, going back for that later. Made it much less stressful.

As far as the drive goes, try and arrive in Vegas just as the sun is setting, the route from Phoenix will bring you in on 93 which comes across the Hoover Dam and then eventually over a crest and the whole of Vegas will be laid out before you - breathtaking in the half light.

If you have some social time in the evening, head across the walkway to NYNY and go to the Times Square bar. They have 2 piano players there that play off wach other - an excellent night (10pm to 2am IIRC)

Any more tips you want give me a shout.

Actually reading what K50 DEL says above reminded me of something. The West Wing is a lood walk from the main reception at the MGM so if you are travelling with a lot of luggage it's a pain as you have to walk all the way through the casino to get to the lifts (the main tower/rooms have lifts that are much closer to reception, plus all of the restaurants etc). There is a bar and a Starbucks close to the West Wing lifts though and as I said before if you are hitting the strip by foot it is closer (the MGM Grand really is a big place).

Valet park everywhere you go.
The norm is to tip the guy $2 when they return your car.

Warm I guess? Not scorching like June - August.

yeah i thought as much. I was wondering if it's worth taking swimming stuff? MGM has 5 outdoor pools, will it be hot enough for swimming in early nov?

lilCat and I have stayed in both the Signature and the MGM Grand itself.

In my opinion, the Signature is far superior in just about every way. It's much more secluded so you're away from all the hustle & bustle, the rooms are much bigger and ofcourse better, the greeters and valet guys will know you by name and will have your car ready for you in no time flat and the real bonus is there are never any queues for valet parking.

But at $49 a night, we couldn't really justify staying at the Signature over the MGM this time around.

$49 was originally for the Grand Tower rooms - We got 'upgraded' to the West Wing area due to a shortage of rooms with King Size beds in.

i've read on several review sites that they do this all the time, and it's not actually an upgrade at all as the west wing rooms aren't as well located? can anyone shed any light on this? i don't want them trying it when i go!

It's not really an upgrade, no.

The rooms are newer and better in the West Wing but they are also smaller and it's abit of a walk to be honest.

packing my swim shorts and gym kit! staying in hotel in cleveland couple of days before which has great pool and gym. average temp is between 15-20c so warm enough for shorts and t-shirt certainly.

apparently the celebrity spa suites weren't much more than the rooms we've got but was to be a bit OTT.

struggling to get a decent hire car still. hiring from phoenix to vegas for a week but all the big companies have got is not very exciting (dodge charger / chrysler 300 or similar). Anyone got any tips on hiring something special?

Don't hertz (and others) do new Camaros and Corvettes?

Hertz do Corvettes BUT expect to pay a one way charge.

Hertz Fun collection is good - but you are going to struggle with any thing too special on a one-way rental.

hertz

mustang @ $900 for the week (unlimited mileage) with one-way drop.
corvette unavailable

mustang @ $450 for the same week (unlimited mileage) returning to pick-up point
