Cape Cod is a good place to visit.
Go to the top of the Rockafeller Building in NYC - gives a great view over the city and you can see the Empire State too.
A helicoptor flight over Manhattan and the river is worth a shot too.

We do loads of NYC trips and various bits in this region through work so just give me a shout if you want any prices etc. smile

I have just back this morning from new york.

stayed for 5 nights used a new york city pass for 3 days and went to.
empire state building. has to be done view are amazing,
new york sky ride (not worth it but free on pass)
top of the rock (rockefeller) night time great views
madison square gardens tour.
Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum
NBC Studio Tour
New York Police Museum
Bodies... The Exhibition
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
Guggenheim Museum (only 3 halls open)
Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises (2 hour night cruise)
Statue of Liberty.
natural history museum
rock and roll museum
radio city music hall
time square at night.

liberty island and empire and or top of the rock and a city cruise I would recommend and do again, the rest i did because they where free.

I walked every where even from 34th / lexington down to battery park (statue of liberty ferry port) which is about 5 mile and then walked back.
next day walked up to guggenheilm. (84th street) (approx 20 blocks is 1 mile)

got a half price ticket for a broadway show from ticket office in time square.

levi 501 jeans at macys where $34.00 a pair,

Even if you aren't on a budget I'd strongly recommend the Staten Island Ferry. It's free (or it was last time we went) and you see so much. We usually come in from Staten Island anyway but it is well worth a return trip to see the sights. Forget tales of loitering drunks and homeboys, it isn't like that anymore.

Also, anyone who goes for a major shop in NY is a buffoon. Not only is it expensive anyway compared to NJ, but you pay an 8.75% NY tax on everything. A serious shopper would get themselves out on a train from Central into NJ and hunt out one of the numerous outlet villages. To give you an idea I got a £300 Timberland Jacket for £33 in the sale, Timberland T shirts for £5, Timberland boots for £27 and Ralph Lauren Polo Shirts for £12 a pop.

The only place worth a visit for shopping in NY is Century 21 opposite the World Trade Centre site and next to Hilton IMO.

"The view" - bar/restaurant on top of the Marriot in Times square

Whole place revolves and gives some excellent views at night
