Is there any difference between let's say a 1985/1986 350i and a 400se??

Yes my mad Dutch captain!! ;^)

The main difference I've noticed is in the outrigger area, the 400 chassis has square section sill tubes. There may be some minor differences between tailing arm and A frame, too.

I think all of the 400s were A frame rear ends, '85 cars would likely be trailing arm.

So replacing just the chassis in a 400se with a 350i one(year 1985/1986) is not possible?

Not without a fair amount of cutting and welding. Who's been a naughty boy and bent their chassis then - c'mon, we want embarrasing piccies!!

Didn't bent my chassis. In the Netherlands they have frozen the age of cars that can be taxfree.

So a 31.12.1986 registrated car will be the youngest possible taxfree car.

I was just asking myself if it was possible to buy a 400se and a 350i chassis with V5 and have a taxfree car.

How many years tax would it take to recover the cost of doing all that. scratchchin

At 600 euros a year, maybe sooner than you think?

What about the simpler approach, a pop rivet gun and change the chassis plate over?

The 600 euro's is about right. They do not accept pop rivets overhere.
