So, there I was earlier this afternoon, booking my flights to Dubai for the Abu Dhabi GP in November & having trawled through the flight saver websites, I think to myself "I wonder if I could do it on airmiles..."

Visit BA website & the flight times are perfect (out on Wednesday night, back on the realy early Tuesday morning to get me to LHR at 0620, giving me enough time to get to the office on time on Tuesday morning.

Start working through the booking process & "oops, you don't have enough airmiles" message is displayed. Not a problem, so I trundle off to another part of the Exec Club website to buy the required amount.

Additional miles purchased & back to booking the flight, the fking, tossing, money grabbing wking website suddenly informs me that on top of the additional miles I had to purchase, it will also cost me £380 furious

Cue a pretty irate Schmalex on the phone to BA Customer Services, requesting & then demanding a refund due to the mis-selling on the website, as had they told me at the time of booking, it would cost X many airmiles + £xxx cash, I would have been able to make an informed buying decision. After 30 minutes of fob-off from the unhelpful tart on the other end of the phone, I finally manage to get put through to a Manager, who just fobs me off with "I can't do anything until you email the customer complaints line".

Nice one BA. As of this afternoon, you have lost both my personal travel and my company's global corporate travel business.

It's ok, they'll be out of business before the end of the year, I actively avoided booking any flights with them for our trip to Japan for this reason.

Just another former state-run company that struggles to shake off its past.

Don't know if related to something I was told the other day...and something that frankly I suspect is utter bullst.

The more people click on any given flight, the more the price goes up. So if you look at a flight a few times (I assume go through to the "all but clicking to buy" screen) then the flight will increase in price.

As I say...I think this is bull but couldn't be arsed to argue...if it's not, then have you been a victim of this?

Not, the price hadn't gone up. The bit that got me was when going through the booking process, all the website said was "you need X many points for this flight. NOT "you need X many points + £xxx cash" for this flight.

Simple miss-selling, as the customer can't make an informed buying decision until committed.

Feck - you need to take a chill pill.

Those flights cost £380 in economy. £578 in WTP and No air miles. And thats with £184 taxes INCLUDED. Good luck finding better prices than that. If you were flying club then taxes would have been £273 - did you really think you don't have to pay taxes with airmiles? Everybody who ever uses miles knows that they often are not the best options. I think the problem here is a bit of naivety.

And give them a chance - they'll refund your miles I'm sure.

All miles/points flights with any airline will incur taxes, it's not just BA. The only time I ever use my BA miles is to book a business class flight since these are never cheap. Double the airmiles required but the normal ticket price is usually at least 4 times the cost of economy on long haul. On short haul, again, not worth using miles since you can get a great deal in economy and the seating is basically the same.

BA still have the best miles scheme out of any airline since they never expire unlike the crappy Star Alliance ones that dissappear after 2-3 years if you haven't used them (and that's per group of miles earnt).

I have no problem paying the taxes.
So what's your problem then?

If you have a global travel account with BA then you must know that the taxes and charges on award flights is fairly high.

And unless you are blind then the taxes are very clearly displyed on the website.

My missus has just flown BA for the first time to the US last week.

Apparently economy is not as good as VA, but going out she blagged 1st class as she booked through a friend who works for them and that is the bizzo.

I also found T5 utterly brilliant.

Try flying with AA, it makes BA look like a luxury airline. I only use my airmiles to book Club tickets, the tax for two of us to San Fran cost £700 in June, but that's still good value for Club
