Innovate wideband playing up
Discussion
Anyone else using the LC1 have issues with Error code 8's popping up with regular frequency (sensor timing error/overheating sensor)
Can't beleieve its overheating as it mainly occurs during part throttle, sometimes just around town. Cycling the power resets the code and its fine for a while again.
Any known issues Rich?
A slight annoyance as i'm running the LC1 to simulate the narrowband output to run closed loop. When it goes code 8 predictably the car goes to 'run like a three legged dog' mode. Looks like i'm probably going to have to swap back the stocker between tuning (or not bother with closed loop)

Worth trying the spare sensor, but I've given up on my LC1 after first the digital and then the analogue outputs failed. They're cheap, and OK when they work, but that's no good if they aren't reliable. I'm looking for a replacement now - a WideBand Commander seems to be the current favourite.
Yeah, my old one is still going ok though the analog output died after a couple of years.
Im on my second sensor, though I think the first was still ok and it was the analog that died. The serial output is much more accurate as it isnt affected by the ground offset.
Try your other sensor, apparently they are consumables.
If you read up on PLX sensors etc they also have problems and cost a heap more. Mind you the stock ones dont last for ever either and are regularly changed. At least the wideband sensor is probably cheaper than the stock narrowbands.
Still ideally it would last a couple of years.

A bit pricier. But Ive had my FJO wideband since 2001 and its still working perfectly ( albeit with a sensor replacement or two over that time....NTK £££ ouch )
Its output is non-linear though, and non-user configurable. Although their newer versions might be. They are pricey though.
But there really are dozens of widebands to choose from these days.

WE are just talking about unreliable sensors here, not the controllers?
I thought the sensor was a Bosch made product? LSU4 or something?
Only problem I get with mine is having to do free air calibration every couple of months. Having said that there has always a .1% difference between them and I hope this will not upset the logging figures?

Are you sure the difference is not down to the difference in bank to bank from exhaust etc?
When I replaced my stock injectors with aftermarket flowed ones the difference disapeared.
But yeah, the sensors may need replacing now and again. Wiring is important, less so with serial logging. You just need 12v and ground in that instance.

When I had this error I reverted to the old firmware and it resolved the issue, that was on a brand new unit too that had been free air calibrated. All of a sudden it would start to randomly error 08. Rather than buy yet another (it was my second) I flashed the older firmware back in and it worked.

hmmmmm, maybe worth I try.
I think it has at least shown I don't want to rely on the WB for narrow-band ECU feedback longterm.
after i had upgraded the firmware it worked for a few weeks no problem then soon as I wanted to actuallly log with it I got repeated e8. I knew it wasnt overheating and after checking voltages the wiring was ok. Reverted firmware et voila. The downside is on the older firmware it takes a lot longer for the device to be ready for logging but it was worth it to get a stable controller. I Wont be buying LC's in the future, I'll use the ones I have till they die but will be using them post cat to retain proper NB logging pre-cat and only WOT tune so post cat the airflow should be fine for that.

both. The sensors when used with the LC-1 etc become more unreliable than with other controllers.I thought the sensor was a Bosch made product? LSU4 or something?
