Workers at Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas, begin disassembling a B61 gravity bomb by separating it into its major subcomponents (the weapon has a total of 5,919 parts). The bomb's warhead is in the section directly behind the nose.

The Nevada Nuclear Test Site is where the 1962 Sedan crater is situated, the largest man-made crater in the USA. The amount of nukes that were tested & that scar this area is quite an eye opener.

Still amazed at how much was accomplished 60 years ago with no/limited computers.

All the above on craters reminds me of the one at RAF Fauld in Staffordshire, which is actually slightly larger than the Sedan crater!. Sadly its very over grown these days so not as impressive to look at.

I'm trying to remember one of the odd stories that came out of the incident, something about a cow inflated to twice it's size (by the air pressure) but still standing up on all 4 legs!. Scary stuff.

Not Nuclear related, but pertinent to your post.....

The SR-71 was designed pre-CAD, with essentially 50's technology.

Quite staggering when you think about it yes

I wouldn't say so - as with the space programme, scientists/designers were using information passed on from previous experiences..........it's the same with CAD, without data there wouldn't be any CAD.
