Back to TVR

Just got back from Cheshire collecting my new/old TVR. Its nice to be back.

The guy I sold it to looked after it and the car looks and feels the same as when I sold it back in January (+3k miles now). A few minor nicks and chips thats all. I did notice a bit of soot around the tailpipes and a few bits of soot on the rear of the car - it drives fine but might be using a bit of oil (not sure when the tailpipes were last polished). I have just cleaned the tailpipe tips up and will monitor carefully.

Well I couldn't find anything to replace it without spending 60k+ (and even then it wouldn't be a TVR!). I still think mine is tidier than most I've seen that have actually been driven rather than parked up for the past 5 years :-)

nice story there,good luck with it and i hope its nothing serious,their all supposed to use a bit of oil are they not?although mine dosnt.

Well neither of these things are serious or difficult to rectify, so neither you should be

Has the new owner changed the exhaust? Mine was fine until I changed to a JP, now I get a black exhaust very quickly due to constant over-run.
Welcome back anyway, yours is one of the cars I looked at when I purchased mine.

Nope, standard exhaust. Last thing I want is a noisier exhaust - I use the TVR for long road trips, not posing up the High Street attracting 15yr old Corsa boys

Great news, glad to see you back in the TVR fold, especially with your old T350.

The soot around the exhaust woories me, as I get this occasionally, well I think it's soot. Might it be that the oil has been over filled - just a thought

Good point, but with a dry sump system surely the pump just takes what the engine 'needs'?

Update on this - after a little 'testing' over the past week or so the engine seems fine. No residue on the tailpipes at all. Maybe the last owner never cleaned them in the 7 months he had the car (the rest of the car was clean though).

Actually it was like it never left. Got in, drove carefully for the first 200 miles (to home) in case something was amiss. Checked the car over like the anal owner I am, and I'm now enjoying it again like it never left. Got a trip to Frankfurt next week (motorshow), then a trip to Switzerland/Grindelwald area in mid October (finally taking my Dad on a roadtrip - supposed to do this in June, got delayed).

Some of the neighbours can't work it out though. "was it in the garage for the past 6 months?" "why did you buy your OLD car again? are you crazy?" uhuh. Meanwhile they drive/lease newish Range Rover Sports, X5s and Porsches which are depreciating off a cliff.
