I wouldn't have thought it would go into the current shape car.

I'm guessing the engine in the X5 is a V8?

I always thought, but not sure if it's set in stone, that the next M3 was going back to 6 cylinders.

that engine will be going in the next M5 according to the press. The next M3 will more than likely be turbocharged straight6. Could buy one and shoehorn some turbos in though that would be interesting biggrin

not into the current model, all rumours point to a lightweight 6 with turbos for the next car, but all signs are this will be the only 8 cylinder M3. Typical lifecycle is 5-6 years for a model in one fundamental guise or another.

don't know on discounts these days; I would expect that most dealers would do a decent deal; but a factory order is never as enticing as an order from stock.

I like the Blue; haven't seen it in the flesh and that's the acid test...

Theres a monte blue one in my dealers showroom just now with black wheels, price on the board is 62 grand. Its nice but not that nice if you get me, certainly looks a bit different with black alloys. For me when/if I get a E92 it will be in white!!

That engine is destined for the new M5 not the M3. The regular 5 series changes shape early
next year so expect an M5 towards the end of 2010, early 2011.
The next M3 will mostly likely be back to 6 cylinders with twin turbos - either a
variant of the current 335i engine - or dare I suggest a version of the V8 4.4 with 2
cylinders lopped off (sound familiar to anyone from the 8o's?).

As for discounts on the current M3 - Expect no less than 6% off, but push for 8%.
Trouble is that there is not that many Editions out there and they are no longer
on the order bank. Grab one while you can.

Worth noting that the 2nd hand values have been on the up for the past 3 months and
stock is low. Also there is a new car price hike due soon, VAT goes back up on new cars
from Jan and the new first purchase tax kicks in next year. Hooray!

Definitely not - current M3 is likely to be only V8

And what a V8...

I've been bhing about my E92 for the last couple of months.. but have now come to the conclusion you just have to drive it like you stole it for it to be fun.

Turn the electronics off, get ready to invest in some new rears and enjoy.

Far too civilized if you don't.
