so this is what im planning on bidding on. His feedback is low, took him 2 days to answer a couple of questions i had, also i only live 5 mins away from him but he said i cannot collect it.

Im probably being over cautious, but under those new paypal rules if i pay with paypal i am protected if it turns out ot be a rip off right?

Yes.

I bought a CPU a year or so back and the person never posted the CPU, then left eBay. PayPal managed to refund my money after about 4-5 weeks.

Seconded. The reason for no pick up is usually because it is suspect in some way. Avoid.

Sounds OK to me however I would prefer to collect if it was local to me, sounds a little fishy maybe but somepeople don't like people coming to their houses. Or its nicked!

Ive just asked him why collection is not possible and ill pay half the profit on his postage. He claims to also have receipts for the purchase

He has walked of with the cash and op is left with a dead xbox.

I Should of also said that your mate should wait around the corner and follow the ebayer home.

Then if the xbox don't work they can pay him a visit and give is face a red ring of death.

Devil's advocate - He has had people say "I'll be there to collect at 5" then not show up for days/at all. If a buyer pays via paypal and then collects, how do you prove they have possession if that buyer then files a claim for non delivery?

This is the type of product that will have greatest appeal to the typical 16 to 25year old male.
Sadly, this is the same demograph statistically most likely to commit a knife point robbery, or a burglary.

Yea, I think he might be protecting himself, ebay only regard a courier receipt as proof the buyer has the item. Without that, they can pay by paypal, collect, and get a refund.

Collect and pay cash would counter that, and also save him the fees etc

Not a scam, more and more people dont entertain collection on expensive items due to the amount of false claims going on with eBay.

Just emailed me and said he had someone threaten him once, hence why he doesnt want collection. With 10 mins left im unsure what to do!
