Hi, i have just bought a 2002 e46 330d tourer. The tailgate warning indicator is showing that the tailgate is open when its not. Because of this, the interior lights in the boot stay on. I have now taken the bulbs out so it doesn't drain the battery.

Both the tailgate and the window shut properly and lock as they should.

Does anyone have any ideas on how i can sort this out as it is really bugging me.

Probably a microswitch that has got stuck or failed inside the lock mechanism? Or a wiring fault?

Check the wiring, and maybe a squirt of WD40 in the mechanism?

Thanks for the reply.
I have now fixed the problem. Being the touring, there are 2 micro switches, one for the rear window and one for the main tailgate.

To rule things out, i used a screwdriver to push the switch all the way back as if the tailgate was being shut. I then checked the dash and bingo, the warning light had gone out.

So obviously this meant the tailgate was not pushing the switch all the way in. So all i did was adjust the bracket on the tailgate that pushes the micro switch in when you close the tailgate.

It worked, no more warning light biggrin

Do your indicators flash when you lock the car now? wink

how satisfying!

I fixed my wife's mobile phone last night with an update of the phone software, and cured her inability to access the phonebook, which was somewhat bugging her.

I'll bet you felt the same way I did. Nothing better than fixing something yourself.

Now onto the weekend smile

Lol, it was extremely satisfying, i had a grin on my face all day, and told my missus to tell me im clever.

But, no, it didn't cure my non flashing indicators when i lock the car.

Someone else has told me, that i need to take it to a garage, as these options are programmed into the key. There is also a lot of other things you can change at the same time if you like. Here is a link to all the options that are available, it might be of interest to you.
