How easy is this to achieve, is there a lot of modding to do to fit the engine in as have been offered a good price on a hardly used VR6 engine

Many thanks

If it's a Mk.3 Golf why bother? Why not just buy a Golf VR6?

VR6 conversions are more usually done to the Mk.2 or Mk.1

I agree with Jon. A VR6 conversion will probably be around £5k+ so might as well get an original VR6.

It was only a guess, how much would it be then smart arse? wink

The Phirm do a 2ltr 16V conv - £850 (+vat) for the engine, labour starts at £2500 (+vat), so £5k isn't that far off, would've thought a decent VR6 engine would be at least £1500?

If there are people out there that pay that sort of money for something like that ,then they need their heads examining!

The smileys were more aimed towards someone willing to pay £5k for a car you can pick up for significantly less than £1k!(assuming you converted a mk3)

I would have thought any competent garage would be able to do that conversion in a couple of days ,maybe 3.

All this is pure conjecture of course - I really have no experience of these things! laugh

Well if you had a complete running VR6 Golf you could probably transplant the guts in a few days...

Seriously..... why if he had a complete and running MK3 Golf VR6 would he want to transfer the guts to another MK3 Golf.

OP as has been said, just buy a VR6 Golf.

Wait.. what? You laugh at someone for their conjecture and then admit that you haven't a clue either?

Just buy this late model Highline

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1203475.htm

Probably too dear but still cheaper than a conversion.

Even more so if you factor in selling the 1.8 GL

Well ,I have never put a VR6 engine in a MK3 Golf ,but have done enough other stuff to give an opinion - (built a 3 litre straight six Manta GTE about 13 years ago)

If you changed the engine, wouldn't the brakes, suspension etc need changing. It's kinda like me putting an R32 engine in my car, everything would need changing.
