Hi, i've been offered an X300 3.2 Sport from a family member (who has given up driving) for a very 'family' price, but it does have issues.

The bodywork isn't great, but there isn't a great deal of rust, it's more paint and parking dents. The leather could really do with some leather feed, and a really good clean.

The only concern I really have is when the engine is idling it seems uneven and misfiring. On the road however with right hoof firmly planted it reacts just as it should, it's only on idle and low engine rpm that the misfire shows itself.

Would it be something as basic as plugs/leads, or am I looking at something more expensive?

Thanks!

Maybe just needs a good BLAST to clear it out and a good service.
Sounds as if only driven a few miles at a time and then the engine not really being used

All the dings would be a worry to me, do you know hawe much it costs to have a good body repair

All the XJ16's (x300 straight 6) did that, there was even a valve timing mod for the 4.0 but it never worked. We tried some injector clearer like products for a while too, which made little difference. The theory at the time was its sticking valves. As its only at idle suggest you dismiss it as normal as long as it drives nice under throttle.

Plugs might help, Let me know if you find the leads

Coil-on-plug ignition?

Have to admit I haven't yet looked into where the faults might be, only had chance for a quick test drive and mooch round it earlier.

Thanks!
