Roof Catches

I can confirm that the roof panels on a s1 do have a habit of leaving the vehicle (well drivers side ones).
Luckilly to a soft verge landing no damage done.

Has anyone managed to retrofit catches, if so piccies and part number would be good, I remember a thread a while back but don't remember anyone actually fitting anything.

Are you talking about the black plastic ones Mike ? they are made by Southco and are available from Maplins IIRC.

or are you thinking about other suggested overlocking latches that have been discussed on here previously ?

also, if you have had problems with the roof coming off, have you checked that the roof panels have all of their pegs and that they locate snugly in the roof rear-section and front frame ? and how is the tension of your struts ? also keep your windows closed at speed ?

passenger side seems nice and tight, drives side you can slide it back and forth half an inch.
Stuts seem tight and rear window plastic seems tight, all pegs look ok.
I'll have a closer look, is it possible to put them in the wrong way round ( i have the wider one on the passenger side, I assumed they only went in one way!)
I wasn't going really fast either

they only go in one way and the wider one is on the passenger side...

half an inch is a lot. there should be no forward/back movement when the struts are closed. Could you have a replacement roof panel from another car perhaps ? I have read that they are not all interchangeable due to slight differences in sizes... ? Could the rear roof section be mis-shapen or loose at the pivot point perhaps ?

I have a broken catch on the pax side which needs replacing.

I think you'll find that it was RS Components that stocked them.

Thats why I couldn't find them

I'm having enough trouble at the moment trying to get some Deutsch connectors to replace my headlight connectors from RS. Difficult to pursuade them my house actually exists

But as they don't seem to do the roof catches anymore I'll get hold of Southco direct.

For anyone who wants them the roof catches can be bought from Zygology.

They are "£7.42 each plus carriage and packing of £8.50 and VAT" (September '09)

To order just call the number on their website, part number E8-10-502-20.

I don't know if I am a bit late with this one. Found this photo from a previous topic
I am just making some of the spacers out of a block of nylon to fit under the catch. I made a sketch, if anyone needs it, I could scan the drawing in and post it. My S2 had no spacers.

Chaps, apologies for resurrecting this old thread, however having broken one of the roof latches at LM Classic I've just ordered a new one from Zygology & can confirm that the price as quoted above remains correct.
