Flywheel question

OK, So I am looking thru some old posts, and come across a flywheel subject. Curious, as I am sometimes wont to be, I take a look. Now I am confused a little.

Is the flywheel NOT a standard Porsche item? I suppose when I stop to think about it, it would have to be modified to fit on the Chevy crank...

Sooo, did you guys opt for the factory supplied flywheel? (and the new starter gear that would need to go with it) or is there another aftermarket supplier? AND... (I hate to even ASK) How much?

I got my flywheel, adapter plate and ring gear from Kennedy engineering in the US....
From memory the whole lot cost around $800 plus shipping so ended up costing me around £850.

Personnely I recomend you get the whole lot from the same supplier to prevent having a slight miss alighnment problem that could cause the clutch to not engage properly or the ring gear to wear etc...

I already ordered my adapter plate from Ultima, but I believe they get them from Kennedy anyway. I will take a look thru Kennedy's website and see what I find. I am not sure how I managed to overlook this little detail...

I would expect the flywheel and ring gear to be about £100 each.

hi ive just got a fly from kenndey it cost $290 there is more than one type, mine is for early crank bolt pattern, give them a call, there very help full here is there no 001 661 272 1147

Blimey thats a hell of a price difference!

I must admit I thought that Ultima sold the kit as an "adapter plate and flywheel" but notice that they call it "engine/transaxle adapter". seeing as they don't list the flywheel separate on the price list I have (like they do the ring gear) and that you have to have a fabricated item, I would be expecting it to come with that.

hi steve in june brought a finshed car that was built about 2 years ago , it had an 86 zz4 engine in with 355 bhp which i have now sold ,iam putting together a hot 383 with about 525 bhp ,as regards the flywheel the bolt pattern changed on the crank in 86 so this means that a new flywheel with the bigger bolt pattern was needed paul

FYI - The flywheel is included with the factory transaxle invert kit. Just found out and wanted to share with the rest of the group.

I think that you will find it's with the engine/transaxle adapter kit of parts listed as:

Engine/transaxle adapter - Chevy/Porsche. Including flywheel to fit small block
Chevy, needle roller spigot bearing and alloy housing.

The invert kit is only to invert the transaxle. (Mountings and breather kit etc.)

Phil, I do stand corrected. It is with the adapter plate kit.
