So I'm in the Market for a 550, have driven a few and am really close to taking the next step with one particular one...

It's going to cost me about £45k, and I want it badly

But... I've arranged to drive a 575 F1 I've seen (with the Fiorano pack) that is 6 years newer, 7k less miles and only £10k more...

Is the 575 really a worse car (all the conoisseurs I've met seem to think so) - I can't really tell the difference on public roads?

Also does the F1 box make so much difference in a car with this gearing and torque?

Finally, am I better off sinking the additional £10k in or will I lose it all over the next 2 years over a 550 ( I only ask as it will make a difference when I lok yo head for something else in the future)

thanks
Midds

PS - I met Andy (?) at Verdi this weekend (550 WSR) - would love his opinion

Only you can decide whether you want the pleasure of a manual gearbox or prefer a slushmatic....

If you want a manual car then you are probably heading towards a 550 as very few 575's were manual.

Longterm value - who knows - it seems like 550's have finally bottomed at about £40k whereas 575's still have a little further to fall.

Personal preference, I guess.

My (manual) 550 WSR has FHP and rollcage - and is a hoon around a track. It's my every day driver.

I think the 575 is a little more fussy looking - but is a quicker car.

Either way - you'll enjoy!

I loved my 550 whilst I had it, wonderful handling and poise for the size.

It's often repeated on here you need the 575 with fiorano handling pack to match the standard 550 setup.

True?

So it's taken me a while to drive enough cars...

And... I decided on a 550, so I've taken the punt and my first Ferrari arrives next week, beautiful in red (what else?) and with unmarked tan interior complete with red stitching...

I can't wait to hear those Tubi's fire up on my drive!

Thanks for all the advice guys

What was the key deciding factor between the two Anthony?

It turned in better and the braking was better - also, while in a 360, the F1 box makes it more involving, in this, the way the engine delivered it's power I just felt more involved with a manual (!?) - with the F1 box i was lazily flicking up with the right hand and leaving it to come down the box all by itself

Personal preference really, I would only have the F1 box in a 'racing' car like a CS

Just gotta wait 'til Thursday...

Nice plate. How much?
Is it 550 OK or 5500 K?

Hi Midds,

You chose the 550 - great choice, what I would have gone for, especially the manual. Was looking into them seriously myself a few months ago. But whether you chose the 550 or 575, for the man on the road when he sees you coming in the other direction, for a moment he's thinking "there goes a real connoisseur of cars". At least that's what I think everytime I see one on the road. Much respect. Of all the F cars, the 550/575 means more "old money" than the rest of the range of that era. Like your Daytona, it's a completely different look to rest of the Ferrari range of the time. Built for a purpose, several purposes in fact. No wonder it was Evo's Car of the Decade. Has to be something special for that accolade. Hope it lives up to expectations! And enjoy!

interesting to see preferences to 550 over 575...normally the second generation cars seem to be more desired and seen as having moved the game on,328 over 308,355 over 348,430 over 360...

Managed to free up tomorrow, so I pick it up then...

As for number plate, I have one to swap on, so no thanks

Finally for 550 vs 575, I think there's more than a few that would agree with my choice from what I've heard over the last 6 months, but again personal preference..

I bet I don't sleep much tonight!

Great choice and enjoy. If I where to go manual I'd go 550, auto 575. The maranello is still the only modern day Ferrari that I would own.
