DTM at Brands hatch over the weekend

Watched the DTM racing at brands hatch over the weekend, I was seriously impressed with it, makes the WTC and BTCC seem like touring car lite. Those V8s sound awesome, plus continual action all over the track, overtaking, pitting etc. Overlaid with a thundering NASCAR and screaming F1esque sound track, with the different v8 motors. 90 lap race makes it quite engrossing especially at a smallish circuit like Brands Hatch where you can see large sections of the track.
The Toyo tires classic formula was also good fare, RX7, e39 M5s, E30 m3s, XJ12s, Golf MK1s, 325s, Capris, Sierra Cosworths etc. Bit of a step back in time, with some entertaining racing thrown in.
Single seater Renault and Formula ford class was okay, not quite as much cut and thrust as I remember, but good to watch none the less. Always going to be a let down after the DTM sound track.
Lewis Hamilton doing burnouts and tail out slides was a complete waste of time, rather have another race class billing than him driving along waving at his "adoring fans".
Some of the commentating was pretty funny, having a strong German accent doing the interviews was good for a laugh, the commentator had an odd turn of phrase, but his English is way better than my German, so fair play. All in all, a good day out.
Anyone else get out to Brands on Sunday ? What did you think ?

I was at Brands at the weekend also, but I am a fan of the DTM.
This was the fourth time that the DTM has been at Brands, don't know whether the DTM has been there before.
For the past few years, you could follow the DTM on Motors TV, but was shown on Setanta this season, but now on ESPN.
Completely agree with you, the DTM is an excellent series but it would be even better if they could get more makes into the series.
A couple of big spills helped with the tension, especially the last one with so few laps to the end of the race, poor Paul Di Resta's lead eaten up twice with Timo on his back each time
As for Lewis, I thought that it was a complete waste of time last year and even more so this year. I suppose he has to go where Norbert asks him to and helps draw other fans to the event.
They are impressive machines and it's great to see them driven by enthusiastic drivers.
I would like to see either the start and finish at Hockenheim, but haven't managed to get there yet.
I have got some pics, mostly of the cars in the garages on the pit lane, I'll get around to posting them sometime this week.

I was there on Sunday. Been fortunate enough to see DTM (and ITC) quite a few times downt the years and always enjoyed it. The race on Sunday was great with some combative drives from di Resta and Paffett. Only disappointment was the over-priced pitlane walk which featured only Oliver Jarvis on hand to sign autographs. Looking forward to next year.
I was there. Very enjoyable, even if the race itself was a bit processional and dogged with team tactics. We even managed to get on the grid before the race, as a mate works for Kolles Audi.
The cars are great and the organisation typically Germanic, but the raceday is so focussed on the TV feed that I imagine the paying punters got a bit bored. They should probably have given away free radios too, as the PA system was useless after lap 1.
Quite enjoyable being on the other side of the fence for a change, but even I started to get a bit lost after the first round of pit stops, so it can't have been great for the casual observer.
I love the cars though, so all the little issues fade into insignificance for me. It's a brilliant circus. But it would be much better at a big track that lets the cars stretch their legs a bit.

Following the race required real concentration, but if you kept a good eye on the pitlane it wasn't too bad. Not a huge amount of overtaking, but the tactics were intriguing and it was an honour to watch such great drivers on their best form. Paffett and Green both managed a couple of decent overtakes. I enjoyed seeing Lewis doing the demo laps - nice to see our reigning World Champion make an effort for his fans. He seems far more aware of the importance of this stuff than anyone else of recent times.
I was there too on the Sunday. Haven't seen DTM for a few years, last time was at Donnington. We got bored with the big gap after the main race and ended up leaving early. Would of liked to see the salon racing, but that was even further down the time table.
The PA system at Brands is crap whatever is on, but the noise of those V8's would of drowned out anything I think! Such a noise!
Good day out overall, think we'll go next year, agree it would be better with more manufactuers.
