so it may well be the dullest thread since time began but still a challenge if you're bored!

what is the cheapest (full stop so includes used) car one can buy that produces less than 120 polar bears per lentil?

and challenge 2. cheapest below 100 sandals per liberal?

It was a general thought after i noticed that the country's favourite 6 day rail travel provider ( wink ) let you park for half price if you have a less than 120thingy car.

and it made me think that actually it's probably not actually all that cost effective given that probably all <120wotsit cars will cost a reasonable amount still..(??)

and then i was also wondering about congestion charge.

you can have sCRAPage cars but please state this in the reply!

You can get a Fiat Panda for less than £5k on the scrappage scheme which is less than 120 mung beans per copy of the Guardian.

I think there is a diesel Fiesta that comes in under 100 climate camps per can of dolphin friendly tuna but I doubt it's all that cheap.

What about older cars like a 1.0l Micra?.

What about a motorbike? less than 1000cc's but how much co2?.

If you put both of those together ... just a thought. I know nothing about he subject.

Your choices are listed here http://www.greencarsite.co.uk/CONGESTION-CHARGE-EX...

Sub 120kg/km decent cars aren't really that cheap because they have higher than normal residuals or are fairly new. And anything electric is rubbish. You could always use the chav modifiers method of getting a sub 120kg/km car and leaving the logbook unchanged when you swap the engine hehe

Surprisingly high. Even little engines used to make a fair amount of CO2. My little 1.0l makes 132g/km for example.

so the panda 1.3cdti multijet sort of thing or maybe an aygo/c1 are the only options.

has the aygo ALWAYS been low c02? i actually like those. if it were cheap enough that'd be the answer. i wouldn't normally think like this - but if i could basically get a free* car over 5 years then swapping my mcs for an aygo and a westfield is tempting..!

what about the old corsa with 1.3cdti? presumably they've subseqquently changed mapping and/or gearing to get co2 down(??).

________

  • if my parking went from a grand to £500pa and i ran it for 5 years and then binned it..

London Midland?

I know someone who uses a Suzuki Alto for the station run. Works out considerably cheaper (half price) to use this car instead of parking the Z4. I think by the time you've got that discount and the 2nd discount for paying up front for the quarter it works out a £1 p/day. Much better than the £6 p/day they charge you for just turning up and feeding the meter.

having looked in to it a bit - using some inspiration from other posts - the cheapest car you seem to be able to buy that fits the 120 newts per badger rating is the...

2002 lupo 1.4tdi
BUT realistically (seeing as there aren't many of thos around) the cheapest is the 2005 C107GO. £4-4.5k then.

BUT if you have a sCRAPpage car then i guess the koreans begin to help you out...

the only outstanding query is -
do these OLDER pandas
fall below the threshold?
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/FIAT...
or the multijet diesel. i am unclear on this.

(don;t worry not my postcode!)

i love them in that colour!
(when my numbers come up that's what colour my 911rsr / S/T project is going to be! wink )

Unbelievable - A Smart ForTwo Diesel, as listed on there, has a higher MPG and emits fewer hemp skirts per Greenpeace Activist than the Prius. It's also half the size.

Guess which one is exempt from the "Congestion" Charge though? rolleyes
