How much for a DJ to play at a wedding

Anyone got married recently?
What am I looking to shell out for a decent DJ to play my wedding? Not talking club dj, just someone who does weddings, and well!

£200 - £300 was what I was thinking?

crikey, i was chargingmore than that when i was doing it in the early 90's

i paid a mates rate of £350 for my first wedding in '96 but it was one of the best in the country!

i would have thought a DJ nowadays would charge about 200ish for a cheapie

I would say closer to 300-500 depending how big the area is/how many people you're entertaining.

The ones I had a quote from was £350 and recommended so seems a decent deal

A good mate of mine does this and states that £300-400 would be a good price if it is a good dj. So seeing as they come reccomended seems a decent price. Good luck on your big day.

I'm a club DJ.
Paid in the region of about £125-£150 for 2-3 hours.
I'd reckon probably double for a wedding DJ as they have to cart in all their speakers/amps/cd players & they'll want paying good money to play ste wedding music for 4 hours.

For our wedding, we set up an iTunes playlist on a laptop and played with it to make it seamless. Borrowed a mate's sound system (wannabe DJ) and away we went.

As someone who used to do this for a living (albeit a long time ago) be prepared to pay good money for a good DJ and setup. There are lots of things to consider, you haven't mentioned how many people they'll be catering for and what type of funtion room/ markee etc etc. This will have a huge impact on what the cost is...

Anyone doing it properly so to speak will have big overheads, public liability insurance, PRS or digital dj license, pat tested equipment etc etc. Dont just pick the cheap end charlies, there will be plenty of these... good luck in finding a good DJ.
