Urban Racing Exhaust sound test......with some others!!!!

Complete system for me was £1250 this inc:

1) Full stainless steel exhaust(no slip joints) with Cosworth style oval tips

2) All exhaust heat wrapped

3) Up rated fuel pump

4) Up rated wiring loom

Extras I had were:

1) Chassis wax-oiled

2) All heat reflection replaced

3) Rear deffuser resprayed

4) M400 side scoops

5) All suspension refrib with new springs

Taken it out again tonite to catch the last of the rays.....sounds and goes great!!!!

Wow, i think that's a great price! If you were to have that work done by a noble dealer you would be looking at three times that. Think i may be needing a new exhaust then.

No, not cats although we did replace one of the cats with one of the last Noble replacements.

Spot on! Two of us were noise tested at bedford yesterday, at 4000 revs they measured 95db and 96db. Both standard exhausts, one's a 2.5 and one's a GTO3.

So what was the cost of the actual Exhaust, sounds like a good deal. Any idea how much it would be with sport cats?

111db is bloody loud! does that have any cats? even my almost unsilenced Ultima wasnt that loud at 108db I beleive every 3db increase is a double of the volume!

I just had a complete exhaust made for my noble, it has sports cats and straight through silencers and was still only 97bd at 4500rpm....

Im no expert, but i believe the reason for the 111db is because the cars accelerator was being blipped somewhat The reading was not taken at a steady 4500rpm like it would for a track day. Paul's car did sound great in the flesh though

Please note, revving my engine in a crowd is not the normal thing I do, but as I had the exhaust fitted, it seemed a shame to miss the opportunity to find out the volume. To give you some idea of the volume, ( and yes it is as Deano says, a bit misleading as the throttle is blipped)

The Gallardo registered : 126.1 (that thing was LOULD)

The Jag : 113.4

The TVR V8S : 112.7

The Maserati : 99.5

ahhh if the car wasnt being held at steady 4500rpm then that would explain why it was so high... would be worth doing a proper measurement to see what the actual db is at 4500rpm.

126DB what was it being measured with? did it really sound 5 times louder than the TVR?

Seems too high....a jet plane take off at 100 yards is 120db

The meter was held just a couple of meters way from the exhaust. It could be the pitch from the engine revving or the bang from the un burnt fuel, just copied the results down from the thread and have no way of knowing if the meter was correct. It reads up to 130db, so if anyone fancies trying to get a couple of meters from a jet engine on take off…….be my guest, I’ll even get you a pair of mitts!!! Would be interesting to test @4500 if that’s the requirements for track-days, some are stricter than others, what’s the max-min???. Thruxton or Castle Coombe would be my closest

Thruxton - 90db(A) static noise limit (measured at 45 degrees to exhaust from 0.5 metres at 2/3rds of max RPM
Castle Combe - 100db(A) static which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm




ETA - Just read this bit on the Castle Combe site "In the event of a car failing the sound check, then the driver will be entitled to a 75% refund."
In my experience that's rather unusual and pleasantly surprising.
