You need an option for "depends on the situation", if it's late at night and I don't want to wake people then the porcailin but in the day might as well aim for the water.

no option for "execute a gracefull fountain like arc over the toilet light"

or ...

"Aim for the toilet blue block thing to make the water all foamy"

or

"try and jet wash off the skid marks that you left earlier .... "

or ...

It's not about the noise, it's the possibility of splashback!

Are you a girl? No? Then that's not an option.

When using a urinal there is definitely a critical angle - the flatter to the china you are the less splash-back there will be

Incidentally, why is this bizzarely interesting question directed at men only? I'd be quite interested to hear if and how women direct their pee. And maybe some pictures?

In the middle of the night I sit down! Firstly cos I'm still wobbly from waking up, secondly it's dark and I can't aim - so sitting down means I'm very quiet!

Well fk you lot, I'm with airbag, I sit down.

Mainly because I'm lazy.

I only do this in my own house though where I have adjusted the toilet seats backwards so my knob doesn't touch the porcelain. hurl
The downside of doing this is the increased risk of skids.

When in a friend/families house, I stand but wipe the porcelain afterwards as a matter of course.

When at a urinal, I take the narrowest angle to the porcelain/stainless, even if it means standing slightly to one side.

Yours sincerly

Where is the "I pee on the compost heap because I am a lentilist" option?

recall going to a recent beer tent, left the door open for some lady, told her the seat was wet from the last person and got told that she stood up anyway smile

generally try to make less noise as it makes less splash, but when drunk I guess it is hit the water full on smile

as for sitting down, generally when something else is going to poke out at the same time smile

I'm with the splashback minimalist lot - contact point needs to be about 40 - 45 degrees IME.
