Renault brings back KERS for Monza

The Renault team has decided to bring back its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix.
Renault has not used KERS since the Spanish Grand Prix in May, having decided that it was not offering a sufficient advantage to justify its use.
However, with KERS-equipped cars having proved the benefits of the system in recent races, the French team has decided to re-introduce it at Monza.
The team's director of engineering Pat Symonds reckons KERS will be worth at least a quarter of a second per lap at the fast Italian tack.
"There are three aspects of KERS that need to be considered: laptime, the advantage it gives from the start, and the ability to assist overtaking," said Symonds.
"Firstly, the gain in lap time of running KERS in Monza is likely to be around a quarter of a second and it's worth even more in qualifying as you can do one release before you start a timed lap and another release during the timed lap.
"In terms of the advantage at the start, it's a long way from the grid to the first corner in Monza and KERS will give an advantage of well over fifteen metres compared with non-KERS cars.
"For assisting overtaking, you have to remember that Monza is a circuit where it's very difficult to overtake, but running KERS certainly won't disadvantage us in that respect. All these factors combine to make Monza a very favourable circuit for KERS."
This is the last thing that the Brawns need, more KERS powered teams getting in the way of a high points finish

This is exactly what Button needs, more teams taking points away from Vettel, Webber and Barrichello.
Not so sure, i think Button needs a few wins and a high points finish before the seasons over as he is already getting criticised for his previous performances. Sure all the good work was done at the start of the season but people have short memories.I can sense the critisism of him already even though he is leading the championship.
I know what you are saying but I think any criticism of Button would need to be measured against the performances of others during the season.
Other than Button's early season charge (he has won 6 races this season remember) no one driver has really shone and it would be difficult to make an argument for a driver other than Button winning the drivers championship.
I agree that Button can't cruise in 7th or 8th for the rest of the season and still EXPECT to win the championship but he could just pick up the odd couple of points in each race and still win because the others (Barrichello, Vettell and Webber have been inconsistent and still seem likely to take points from each other.
Added to that, it seems likely that McLaren, Ferrari and Alonso will be stronger in the last part fo the season than tehy were in the first half and that will take points from thsoe pursuing Button.
Raikonen, Hamilton and Alonso can't win the championship from here but they could well decide the outcome....
And what price a Fisichella win at Monza....?

Well said, cant really agrue with your point. P.S. Not sure about Fisi, one good performance all season in arguably the quickest car at Spa and we have everyone telling us what a great talent he was and how he was overlooked all of his career??? I think it will be a Mclaren front row at Monza.
Realistically, I think the highest positions that the Brawns and the Red Bulls can hope for this weekend are the 7ths and 8ths. Ferrari, Renault, McLaren and to a certain extent BMW and Force India look to be stronger on a Monza type of track. The Championships will be decided on the streets of Singapore and Abu Dhabi where the Red Bulls and Brawns will have far more chance of serious points. Brazil is always a lottery, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Barrichello crying on the top step...
