Living in Spain, you can´t get the same food as in the UK which is fine, but my wife would really like some orange squash (Or any other fruit squash) When we go to the UK, we travel with hand luggage, so bringing it back is not an option, so any ideas on a good recipie?

Thanks

Off subject but I was shocked at what basics you can't obtain in Spain myself. Namely curry. I promised the boys a curry and hunted high and low for anything resembling curry without success.

Its the same here. I walked to 3 different supermarkets on saturday looking for a stir in curry sauce. Nothing. So last night i made an abomination out of some old marinade paste that is at least 2 years old and some yoghurt... ill be importing curry sauce in the future!

Squash out here in bloody expensive but at least its availible

It´s strange, but there is a good curry house in Barcelona.. in Example... There is also a shop in Gracia which sells curry pastes and even mango chutney... went in on Saturday and it looks great.

Where abouts are you? Never had any issues getting this sort of thing in the local Supersol or Spar on the C Del Sol...

I can't say I saw one curry house in Barcelona, and we even spent a few hours one day searching every shop and supermarket in Begur, Palafrugell, Aiguablava, Aiguafreda and even as far as Palamos, all without joy.

I´m in Barcelona and we have a number of expats here looking for the same things... even Carrefour on line does not have squash...

As for curry in Barcelona, it´s 3-4 roads over from Tarragona and just off arago... it´s not bad either!!

all the supermarkets here have started selling spice mix kits that you just throw in the pan with some yoghurt and/or cream. might be worth a look on your next trip back, a case full of cotton jalfrezi is not going to wash out!

is the hun not a curry fan then? i was in a few curry house/shisha bars in berlin and took that as a good sign.

you could just buy a few spices and make a proper curry, rather than something horrid from a jar? yuck

just get some cardamom, cumin, coriander seed, chilli, bay leaves...hell im sure you could get them online (they are dry and lightweight) if necessary.

oh and to make squash, you just need to boil up orange juice, orange peel, water, LOTS of sugar and some citric acid. strain and cool and you have squash!

search "cordial recipes" to get an idea of the proportions.

The key is to make sure you use hot sterilized bottles.
