I am just starting to play with editing, and would like if possible to download some free software just to kick me off. Any recommendations?

Gimp is supposed to be quite good, though I've never used it myself. Not sure what the learning curve is like.

For easy tweaks I would consider Lightoom 2. I know it's not free, but they are offering a trail of it at the mo.

Excellent software

Another vote here for The GIMP, although I'd also suggest taking a look at Paint.Net too - it's not got the raw power but is easier to get to grips with and seems more stable(on my system at least!)

Mini... download it - it's good. It's also a similar interface to the big progs, so transferable skills. Best of all, it's free.
