This might sound like heresy, but assuming a running 350i, how much are all the bits worth?

Tub c/w roof & doors and interior - £1000?
sill covers 50/side
rear bumper 100
front airdam 100
front bumper 50
Bonnet - 100
boot - 70
wheels - 200
wheel centres - 120
chassis - 300
engine/ancillaries/ecu 300
gearbox 150
rear suspension & drive 150/side
diff 70
headlights pods and motors 70/side
wiper assembly 50
stainless exhaust 200

So far that comes to £3200+ unless someone want to correct my estimates above (please do!) but bear in mind that they are on the low side and/or what I have had for parts in the past....

It just seems crazy doesn't it. The Wedge is going through the period in it's history when it is most likely worth more as spares. There must be a point in the future when enough have been broken to push the value up due to extreme rarity. I personally don't mind too much if the values are low because I can use the car and not worry about it. The problem comes when something like the hood or the engine come up for replacement. You then face the agonizing question break or repair????

Luckily we all seem to be eternal optimists that imagine our rolling restos as finished! That is enough to keep most Wedges on the road.

Sorry Adam Got carried away on previous post. I set out to say those figures look about right. Rarer parts such as wheel centres, wiper assemblies and heater boxes seem to fetch good prices on fleabay.

Chance to back the theory up. Buy it and break it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TVR-400SE-1989-Project-Runs-...

Went through the maths with the last 400SE Universal Salvage had listed.....not as much money in it as you would think.
Although looking at this one, is the ashtray all ok idea

Should have a wedge fund where we have say 25 members entering £100 and buying such cars when they arise and hopefully making a profit (if breaking is the most viable option) while also helping other members out on the specific parts.

Theres enough expertise and fairness on here ?

I forgot the ashtray - £70 for that!

Yes I sols a non-vented bonnnet for 100 sobs recently and yes I'm talking lettuce wheels too, obviously split rims will be more, but they are on more expensive cars.

I'd be up for either contributing to buy it (no room to store) or buying the dash and centre console it if it bought to break.

You're right about not being worth as much in parts as one would like/think - I have been offered a 5-clock dash and complete interior inc seats for £275 from the boys up north.

You can break if here no problem if you can get enough people to give me the £3k for the car.

If it's a complete car, why part it out?

It's a good idea to club together and buy such cars if someone has anywhere to store them. I've been watching that 400SE but find it hard to justify buying another.

Hi Nick,

The breakers up north offered me the complete interior inc dash and centre console from their late wedge (5 clock dash facing the driver) for a very reasonable £275.00. However, I don't need the seats but would be happy to pay the same for the rest.

I'll probably take a bunch more stuff also but cannot think right now.

Not a lot I know but is anyone else still interested in anything?

Glad to see we are all thinking about going green and recycling biggrin

Andy those wheels on your car look familiar, good old ebay ! - Your car looks more suited to the one they came off

Hi Phil,

It not worth me breaking it for that to be honest, if i spent half a day getting the interior out in effect i'd be selling it to you for nothing.

I'll replace the hood and mot the car, and go again around the 4k mark, there seems to be plenty to compete against in pricing terms at present, getting to the end of summer so i may have to accept a lower price or keep it.

Regards

Nick

Is this ashtray lark an "old wives tale" or are they really worth silly money?

Not sure about the old wifes tale but I've had my car over 20 years and it had 1 ash tray missing when I bought it. In all that time I've not managed to find a replacement that matched the original. In the end I fitted a pair that looked similar, which I think came off a TR7.

I found mine out the other day when taking photos of parts to put on flea-bay - i think i better list it before the wife uses it to put C*#p in out of her greenhouse (in joke cos my tub looks like a display from a garden centre at the minute)
