My warning lights come on when I'm driving(sometimes) I have been told I need a new dash pod. 1st choice breakers were contacted and about half a dozen of their members came back with prices varying from £20 to £75, I've decided to go with a guy in Oldham that will do the job for £70 fitted, this saves the agro of taking it out to read the part number off the back then waiting till it arrives by post.
Now I'm no electrician but is it possible to check the fault and fix the old one?
I rang my local BMW dealer for a price new, they said £370 for the pod then £80 for some sort of re-programming 'thingy' and £92 for a cable/adaptor. I can only assume they now only produce one type of dash pod and the customer has to buy the adaptor to fit.
BMW also added that £370 was exchange so surely that means thay can do something with the old ones.

I suppose it depends on the car?

Don't forget that car will be showing incorrect mileage.

Yes and therefore the mileage tamper light will always be on as the dashboard mileage will differ to the mileage stored elsewhere in the car.

From the sound of those prices, I would guess he drives an E36, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the link, they said the best way to go if the car is a minter is to have the pod rebuilt at £160 otherwise just buy a secondhand unit. Units secondhand vary from £20 to £75 but of course as has been mentioned the mileage could be anything unless I pay £50(or less) to have it adjusted.
The cluster repair man recommended Midlandbm.com, they have one for £30 with a 3 month guarantee, mind you he has got one with chrome surrounds for £100 and it's nearly new(will have to check what he means by that).
