It is often been said that Orson Welles's masterpiece "Citizen Kane" is the greatest film ever to hit the silver screen.......possibly.....

I would like to add a few more into the melting pot:-

High Noon

Brief Encounter

The Shawshank Redemption

The Pianist

Doctor Zhivago

Any more?

Shawshank is a nice little film but the vogue for including it as one of the greatest ever is the toil of idiots.

Maybe, but being a relative box office flop and the subsequent rise to popularity on VHS/DVD means at least it gets mentioned due to its merit rather than marketing budget.

And its better than the short story its based upon, in my opinion.
