New M3 from RS4 - advice anyone?
Discussion
As the title suggests, I am seriously thinking about trading in my RS4 for a new M3. The RS4 is getting on (3 1/2 years now) and has just turned over 35k miles. Loved the car, but had issues with the bucket seats and prefer a paddle shift. Also, like to oversteer (if no ones on the road)and found this a bit hard with the 4wd so always prefered rwd.
Anyone out there lived with both?
Will be going for a saloon version, which looks very good for a 4 door, with dct and damper control. Had both these in a TT I had a few years back and liked them a lot. I know most of you on here will be biased in favour of BMW, but how do the two stack up to live with?

I've not driven one yet. It is being arranged though as soon as the dealership replace the current rears on their demonstrator. lol.
So you like to oversteer a bit, but you bought a 4x4 Audi. I've been tempted by Audis at times, but the 4WD has put me off. Was it oversteerable on the power at all?

Not like a real wheeler. I came from porsche background and loved my 993 3.8. (Yes, it was a v. ltd edition 3.8 before you all go it only came in 3.6! I have the docs still to prove it.) The turbo I had before my wife replicated wasn't quite as much fun as that as a 4wd, but I loved the power. The RS4 was a sensible choice for me and a young family. With the youngest still only 20 months, I am being forced to stay with a saloon and it seems the M3 is the best small saloon out there.
If you like slide once in a while and the odd spin round a track, rwd is more fun. That sliding feeling where you turn your head and the wheel back into the skid can't be beat. But if you want a bit of safety, 4wd is better.
Must say, loved the rs4. But not a drivers car as such and becoming a kids poser car a bit, like a growly Scooby. But I was really impressed by the M3 and love the fact that it is a car that will take a good while to learn properly. I would say its better than th Rs6, which is far too heavy and lumpy.
But, as I asked, has anyone lived with both?

Not lived with but I've driven both and RS4 is a really good car but I feel the M3 is a better driver's car. The RS4 is more instantly satisfying, the M3 takes more time to get used to and is just slightly better than the RS4 in my opinion.
I thought the RS4 I drove was truly awesome and in all honesty there's not that much to separate an RS4 and an M3 but the M3 just takes time to make it's point, once it does though, you'll never want to go back! It's one of the best cars I've ever driven (a superb all-rounder) and certainly the best car I've owned.
If you like driving then, you'll absolutely love the M3 - it's not perfect but it is an excellent jack of all trades!
