Michael Shields to be freed

I've followed this for a while.
He is a Liverpool FC fan convicted of murder after the 2005 Champions League win. Another fan came forward and admitted the crime but the authorities in Bulgaria would not free Shields until the fan who admitted the crime took his place - this other guy declined the offer of course.
Good news. However, you have to wonder why Jack Straw sat on his hands up until this point.

So what's going to happen to the guy who confessed it was him?
As I understand nothing will happen to him. Going back a few years he refused to travel to Bulgaria so his "evidence" has never been heard. A signed confession too.The trial and what happened since has been complete b

k em, what do I care what happens to innocent scousers
just yet another example of labour's complete and utter contempt for the people of the UK, the only vocal labour MP on this seemed to be Frank Field (who should be the only labour mp not put up against the wall when the revolution comes)

Great news for Michael, I´ve followed this over the years and there is much evidence that he is not the killer and totally innocent. Lets hope he gets a few quid from one of the papers for selling his story as compensation and then can get on with his life.T-J-K

The Extradition Act 2003 divides the UK's extradition partners into two categories. Part 1 territories are those EU member states who, like the UK, operate the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) procedure. These are:

Part 2 territories include those Members of the Council of Europe who are not in the EU and are party to the European Convention on Extradition; Commonwealth territories; and bilateral extradition treaty partners, such as the United States. These are:
Albania; Andorra; Antigua and Barbuda; Armenia; Argentina; Australia; Azerbaijan; The Bahamas; Bangladesh; Barbados; Belize; Bolivia; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Botswana; Brazil; Brunei; Bulgaria; Canada; Chile; Colombia; Cook Islands; Croatia; Cuba; Dominica; Ecuador; El Salvador; Fiji; The Gambia; Georgia; Ghana; Grenada; Guatemala; Guyana; Haiti; Hong Kong Special Administrative Region *; Iceland; India; Iraq; Israel; Jamaica; Kenya; Kiribati; Lesotho; Liberia; Liechtenstein; the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; Malawi; Malaysia; Maldives; Mauritius; Mexico; Moldova; Monaco; Nauru; New Zealand; Nicaragua; Nigeria; Norway; Panama; Papua New Guinea; Paraguay; Peru; Romania; Russian Federation; Saint Christopher and Nevis; Saint Lucia; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; San Marino; Serbia and Montenegro; Seychelles; Sierra Leone; Singapore; Solomon Islands; South Africa; Sri Lanka; Swaziland; Switzerland; Tanzania; Thailand; Tonga; Trinidad and Tobago; Turkey; Tuvalu; Uganda; Ukraine; United States of America; Uruguay; Vanuatu; Western Samoa; Zambia and Zimbabwe.

So all it needs is for the Bulgarian authorities to ask for him to be sent?
looks that way, got to wonder why the government havent pressed for this to happen . . . . . No one very forthcoming with any of this evidence that proves him innocent.
On Radio 4 last night the summary of the evidence used by Jack Straw to allow his pardon was that "Some of Shield's relatives were witness to a vocal confession from another Liverpool fan". Not exactly compelling is it?
This makes an interesting read:

Oh, and how many of the people on here celebrating his release are Liverpool fans?
