Hey all,

My brother in law wants to remap his '04 S3 and is unsure which is the better bet, Revo or AMD.

I hear lots of good things about both - but having been to neither I am keen to understand what peoples thoughts are...similarly if he decided to go to stage 2 or 3 which one allows him to do this most effectively with the best reliability.

Thanks

Munkey

Revo is a nice smooth and torquey delivery whereas the AMD car I had recently was 'agressive' to say the very least!

Never seen an S3 on an 04 before, late registered?

its a 53 plate! i realised i had written it wrongly and was called to a meeting. I wont change it now otherwise people will read your comment and think EH? lol

Aggressive? In a good way? Short power banding or just very un smooth - which would you spend your cash on?

I had a custom AmD mapping on mine and was very very happy. Power deliver was very much like standard but there was just more of it. And it didn't run out of steam at the top of the rev range like before.

I read up a lot about remaps before I got it done and it sounded to me like the AmD one was generally considered better than the Revo one. Jabba are also supposed to be good, as well as MRC. It's also worth talking to APS.

I always thought REVO did very aggressive remaps.

You could have a 5 hour free trail from REVO, see if you like it. Me personally when I want to remap my S3 il propably go REVO.

Having driven a few I'd disagree with that but above there's another opinion again!

Revo will indeed do a free 5 hour trial so have a go for yourse;f and see what you think smile

How would you compare the differences in maps from the S3's you have been in or driven. I will be looking for an aggressive map.

Get a Revo stage 2 and a serial port switch so you can play with it - Fizz bang delivery will annoy you in day to day driving. Had cars in with Superchips maps like this and we put them back to standard.

Very subjective thing though - what you consider aggresive and what I consider agressive. Revo's trial is free, if you decide you want more at least you have a good, personal base for comparison.

If you really want to go insane an IHI turbo and associated breating/cooling will see you 350 BHP as a starting point...

+1 thats the big issue - having to change gears or having a small power band.

The revo can be switched on and off though. A smoother more powerful full band of power is the preference so AMD i think he is going for!

I understand what your saying. I think I would like a more put you in the seat effect, which standard the S3 has little of.

When people say their map is smooth, I tend to think the power delivery is more of a luxury car delivery. Fair enough the power is more progressive but sometimes that can feel slow.

My S3 is standard minus Green Cotton filter and Forge 007P but im going to get the things needed for a stage 2 and go straight for that and depending on how much I like it is weather I go hybrid after that.

Custom Code are another one to look into.

Nice and progressive and really opens up the top end, a few maps just dump all the power in at low revs, you need something that carries the power through the whole rev range smile

Do you have APR at all? Very popular in Australia and the US for the 1.8t engine in particular.
I’m currently looking at either going a Unitronics custom code for my MY01 S3 or a Revo.
One thing to bear in mind is that the standard factory diverter valve will tend to pack it in pretty short after you go down that path – I ended up going for an APR R1, but the Forge 007 is also a good option. The N75 valve can also start to play up as well.
