Anyone fitted on of these to replace the Hydratrac diff ?, just wondering if they are better / stronger than the orignal offering

I fitted one but to replace the normal plate version rather than the Hydrotrac. Seems to do the job very well and a lot better than the worn out one I had. Driving on the road feels no different, it appears to be completely vice free and quieter than the original. Driving more aggressively on the track with slicks I have to be careful getting on the power out of tight corners because the diff is working correctly and sends power to the grippy wheel rather than harmlessly spinning the less grippy one making the car a bit more tail happy.

Doesn’t really answer your question though.

One problem with the ATB is both wheels need some load, if one is in the air it will only drive the free wheel so no good if you do a lot of kerb hopping.

I would be surprised if you actually have a HydraTrac diff.

The factory offered HydraTrac as an (£1250 IIRC) option on Griff's and Chimps.

According to the factory, nobody ever ordered it, so they never built one.

Curious, when I was looking to buy my car I was trying to work out exactly what options I wanted on the car.

I phoned the factory and asked what advantage the HydraTrac gave over standard diff’s and should I insist on a HydraTrac.

They told me that I wouldn’t find one because they hadn’t made any, since nobody ever ordered one.

Was that wrong, or was yours retro fitted?

Perhaps they did one as a prototype and you have it.

Or does anyone else have a have HydraTrac too?

I bought the car new and speced it, I was told the HydraTrac was a more tractable form of limited slip diff, can't say I've noticed, but I think it's not as noisy as clutch type LSD's

Ordered mine new with the hydratrac,being my first TVR I drove it like a pussy so could'nt tell you the difference to the standard lsd of later cars I owned.
