Presuming I have an air lock in the oil pump. Been doing a service on and off for a couple of days, oil filter was left off overnight as was the sump drain plug. After refilling with oil and turning it over with ignition fuse out, I cannot get any oil pressure on the gauge. I have undone the hose from the filter housing which runs to the oil cooler, and have over the past day put about 500mm of oil down it to try and get some oil back into the pump. still no joy, I have also tried turning it over with the hose off the filter housing to see what comes out, I get a little trickle at first then nothing.
Any ideas please guys? (BGB dont you even start taking the piss)

Did you fill the oil filter up with oil?

Are you just cranking it over? Or are you firing it up?

Used to have this A LOT on V12 Astons, suction pipe was a nightmare and there just wasn;t enough "suck" to pull the oil up at 250 revs/min.

Easiest just to fire it up. It will soon pick up the oil then. If no pressure within 1-2 seconds of running you have a more serious problem and should stop the engine.

Don't forget there is a mile of pipework to the oil cooler and back. laugh

If I keep pouring oil down the cooler hose back to the pump can it get past the pump gear and into the sump?

It could if you had enough of a head but it would be a very small amoung and take a very long time due to the clearnce between the gears in the pump.

laughI might just have to up load this picture....

As said, it should be ok to start for a couple of seconds as the bearings etc will still have an oil film there. If not get a drill pump and connect it to the block to get some oil pressure up first.
