Stopped selling on ebay over 2 years ago, just not worth the aggro. It's full of scammers too. PayPal payments easily reversed (due to lack of funds in the bank account - yet PayPal appears to facilitate instant payments) once goods posted to customer. And their stupid account limitations.
I still use them for the occasional purchase.

I believe a classified ad (for cars, etc) results in a sale outside of ebay so the usual buyer's rights (ie. not a lot) apply.
I tend to just use it for more obscure stuff these days, have a few searches set up and get emailed if anything matches. I still sell the occasional thing and have yet to be bitten, although I never offer any postage option that isn't tracked and signed for - it's way too easy for a buyer to claim something never turned up and get their money back. I always use a load of photos and describe everything accurately including any problems/flaws so a buyer can't use the "not as described" line.

EBay/PayPal are ridicules really. My Sister used my account for selling some items and all went well bar one item. One item of clothing sold for £3 and some postage and the buyer clamed the month back (I think about £5?) which PayPal gave back. It’s only a small amount of money so not worth bothering about although I did send PayPal an e-mail with proof that the buyer had left feedback saying how nice the item was but that was not acceptable for PayPal so we lost the money. I will never used either company again as the set-up is a joke.
If you view it from the buyer's perspective though...
I got sold an item that didn't work despite the advert plainly saying that it did. I returned it after being promised a refund. Seller subsequently hasn't bothered to refund me. Eventually I had to start a dispute.
It's ongoing and it's going to take weeks/months to get refunded.
eBay, of course, are making sure THEY don't lose. Understandable.

Another here who will never use eBay or Paypal again. Been messed around unfairly too many times, and caused me charges for going into an unarranged overdraft at the bank, after Paypal froze some funds and then refunded them to the buyer despite me uploading a scan of proof of postage. There is always somewhere else to source whatever you're looking for anyway.
I don't really sell anything, but I use Amazon Marketplace for buying stuff now.

Only had one small issue with a seller claiming they had sent an item that never arrived, and they were trying to get me to chase it up with parcelforce, which is their remit as the seller...
Had to raise a dispute, item magically appeared 3 working days later with no further hassle.

Agreed, I have another thread running on here where I bought a ticket for a festival tomorrow, seller stated that they would send special delivery, didnt, i now have no ticket and have had to purchase another from gumtree so am currently £150 out of pocket, raised a dispute and spoke to Paypal who said I have a good caseI got sold an item that didn't work despite the advert plainly saying that it did. I guess its like everywhere good and bad people frequent it, i have had some superb service and absolute bargains off people from Ebay
