E60 M5 - issues with poor quality trim materials ...........
Discussion
Hi
I’ve a few issues with some of the trim on my E60 M5 2005 and was wondering what the best route of action would be to get BMW to rectify FOC as clearly the parts are not fit for purpose as the car has only covered 23k miles from new.
Problems are :-
1. Indicators on the front wings are misted up with water
2. ///M Logos on all four sill kick plates are discoloured/tarnished
3. Black coating on the steering wheel spokes is rubbing off
4. Black trim around the electric window buttons is rubbing off
5. Drivers side seat bolster has saggy leather and is deformed
6. Stitching is fraying on both front seats next to where the seatbelts rub against them
None of the problems are major but combined take the shine of what should be a quality premium product. The rest of the car is like new and has been a pampered one owner car, so none of the problems are as a result of neglect.
I have a BMW Insured Warranty but this specifically excludes bodywork and trim items.
What do you guys think is the best was forward here :-
1. Write to BMW Customer Services directly with photos etc ??
2. Visit my dealer and ask if they can help ??
3. Write to BMW Insured Warranty with photos etc ??
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've had items 1-4 replaced under warranty before. Items 5 and 6 you might struggle with.
The trim on the steering wheel and the leccy window surround is a commmon problem and it should be dealt with by BMW under warranty. IIRC it's about £50 in parts and about 15 mins labour, so not too major. My sill plates on my M3 are in need of replacing and I'll be seeing the dealer on Saturday about doing that under warranty.
I'm not sure anything can be done about the leather on teh seats apart from buying new covers. My leather is 99% fine, but when I asked them about replacing the little bit that isn't, the response was negative.

Sill kick plates on warranty...really? My front ones could do with changing. Could I get that done on warranty? The trim on the steering wheel and the leccy window surround is a commmon problem and it should be dealt with by BMW under warranty. I have my doubts.

I have my doubts.
I had all four of my kick plates replaced out of manufacturers warranty (the car has extended). I was told that this was replaced under the dealers "good will" policy and that the components were NOT covered
I also have the issue with the steering wheel and will ask the question next time its in, hopefully I will get another positive outcome
