MX-5 owners celebrate 20 years of their cars at Mallory Park

If you're stuck for something to do on Saturday, and want to avoid a trip to the supermarket, why not go to a birthday party? The MX-5 owners club are holding an event at Mallory Park this Saturday to celebrate the iconic Mazda's 20th birthday.

The 2009 National Rally will draw hoardes of MX-5s from all over the country, and all sorts of things will be taking place on and off the Leicestershire track to honour the commencement of the much-loved roadster's third decade.

For those brave enough to take their pride and joy on track, there will be reduced-cost track time, and driving tuition will be available for anyone wanting to brush up their skills on the day. There will also be a gymkhana paddock/handling arena for owners to pit their skills against one another.

Driftworks will also be there giving a demonstration of, er, drifting, and you can pay for hot laps with experienced drivers, with proceeds going to charity.

Off the track you'll find a selection of trade stands and a craft exhibition (presumably more of the roof-repairing rather than basket-weaving variety), all dedicated to MX-5s. There's even a raffle to win a pristine Mk1 MX-5 in aid of soldiers' charity Help for Heroes.

Tickets are £8 at the gate, and you don't have to be a member of the owners club to go along.

We did discuss this, but unfortunately none of us can get to Mallory this weekend Also we're conscious of not putting too many extra miles on the car when we want to sell it, we're trying to get it as nice as possible for the imminent sale!

Shame though, it would have been fun to take it there...

Why don't you lend it to a PH member to take it there for the weekend? I'm sure someone would love to take it.
