Mains power cables

Sorry if this is in wrong forum etc - no idea where to put it.

Somehow our previous tennants have managed to cut the mains power cord on the lawnmower. (I hope they were using the circuit breaker!)

They've got it in the middle, so if i just cut it and wired a new plug on it'd be very short. Is there some sort of connector i could use to pop the two ends back together?

Take the mower apart and re-connect a new cable -as long as you want (within reason) and a new plug.

Tis the safest way.

Add a RCD to be safe.

That does not look very moisture resistant!!!

If it is for an outdoor application (which it is unless you mow your carpets) you will need to find something better than that!

I would either replace the entire flex, or use a suitable waterproof connector... damp grass and electricity dont mix!

You shouldnt be cutting grass when its wet it will just clog up your lawnmower.

^^^ This. It is only three wires. Somewhere, probably under a screwed down cover, are three connectors. Buy a whole new cable and replace the broken one. You'll probably have to fit a plug to the new cable, but that isn't hard either.

Ours was damaged in transit when moving years ago. Bought the suitable flex that happened to be 2 core for our mower and replaced it in one piece.

I beleive that even the flex is a lot beefier than for most appliances, and both ends prob have some kind of moisture protection.....so try very hard to get stuff of similar style

Definitely buy a new cable, it'll probably be less hassle than wiring an inline connector anyway and you don't need to worry about damp etc.

I'll be having a look at it tonight, so i'll see how easy it is to get to the start of the cable.

just put an in line connector with an ip rating of 66.

Don't go opening the lawn mower up to put a new cable in, no need.
