My only experince with 'after market' warranties is they exclude the things that go wrong. This happend twice to me.

You are flogging a dead horse, they are all a complete stitch-up. Even with a car just out of mfr warranty, the premiums are often as much as what it would cost you if you had a bad year with the car. Are you the type of person who pays a higher insurance premium in order to bring their excess down? If so, keep looking for a warranty. They love people like you!

WFT?banghead Please don't make assumptions about me. I only want advice on which company (if any) can offer good cover. My car cost £10k 3 months ago and if it goes bang I want to be covered,

Have you tried the manufacturer, they are usually pretty good. Not cheap mind.

I had a 997 just out of warranty so I paid about £1500 to extend it. The radio went tits up and loaded 2 cd's and played neither.

Porsche tried their level best to get out of that one. If they try and wriggle out of a £1500 warranty I hate to think what some of the lesser ones are like.

Warranty Direct are one of the big players. No idea what they're like at paying out though.

One thing to look for is consequential damage clauses.

i.e. if your cambelt snaps, some warranties will cover the cambelt, and not the damage it does.

I paid £550 for warranty direct all bells and whistles cover and it didnt cover me for a fking thing, clutch slave cylinder went suddenly which meant I had to change gear clutchless to get to the side of the road which buggered the syncho for 2nd gear, even tho all these parts were covered by the warranty they refused to pay a god damn penny as they said it wasnt a sudden failure!!!

also didnt help that I am in NI and the nearest approved garage they directed me to was in Wales!

all in all I found the company, their employees and their product to be utterly worthless.

imo.

even thinking about it now makes my blood boil with anger at how I was totally robbed, and after every person I knew advising me not to buy it then said 'I told you they were all not worth the paper they were written on'

listen to the people here, honestly they are terrible.

Watch Warranty Direct. I called and wanted details of their bells and whistles warranty. Was told this, and told that, and given a price. Two weeks later they chased me and lowered the price. I then asked for the T&C's.... when I read them I was taken aback by the amount of bits they wouldn't cover. In my book the only warranty worth having is a fully backed manufactures.

So is anyone going to post and give personal experience of when their warranty was worth it?

I got my radio repaired after they refused to do it under warranty. Seems they doo not like people shouting in their showroom.

I think the only opinion you will get is they are not worth it.

I think the general opinion when I have looked into it is Manufacturers warranties can be worth it (saved me £2k on my BMW with no hassles) and aftermarket ones aren't (wiggle and squirm to get out of anything).
Of course some of the stipulations of Manufacturers warranties include servicing at the Manufacturers approved garages. Use an indy garage and the money you save put aside for when things go wrong.
I feel sorry for you, £10k is a big hit. It's gutty when it happens, I know the feeling (I've had £11k before frown).

I've had payouts from Tesco, no quibble on a a known seal issue on the 987 Boxster and a gearbox issue. Nearly 2k's worth of work.

I think knowing they payout rather than quibble is a peace of mind thing in itself.
Just be aware that they do send out someone to check what the issue is and if its covered, ( But its a very good policy when you compare it to others out there.) and they dont cover certain cars.
